Orientated in the alarm position, you will push the clasp into the base of the lock just like any other lock and it will not activate the alarm unless someone pulls on the clasp trying to pull it out. So if someone sees that the shed is locked and just shakes the lock, nothing will happen. If they pull on the lock and try to break it. The alarm will go off. It will only go off for a period of time, (Sorry. Can't remember exactly how long, but it's a matter of minutes). Once the alarm is left alone, it will silence itself. NOW, if anyone moves the alarm, it will go off. Unless you are in an area where the winds are really strong, I don't think you will have a problem at all.The lock weighs 10.4 ounces! That's pretty heavy for a lock. I would recommed that you create a cover over the lock so that rain and snow don't get inside. You have to unlock the lock and look inside the holes where the clasp goes in order to remove and install the batteries. You will need a phillips screw driver for this. It take button batteries that are easily available and they have a long life. Oh. When I got mine, it came with an extra set a batteries! If you go to the shed after a long period of time and pull on the lock, it will Churp. You will know that No one had tampered with your shed. If the alarm goes off, you will know that the alarm has recieved a downward force strong enough to activate it. I Love the fact that it takes that force to activate it. It means that It should never become activated unless someone or something put some serious force on it. I just put the clasp into alarm configuration and threw the lock acrossed the floor, and it beeped 3 times to tell me that it wasn't happy. I walked over and was able to gently pick it up and use the key to turn it off before I woke up my neighbors. Did I mention that It's really loud!?
