With this unit, you put in the temperature at which you want the device to turn on (left window), and on the right you enter the temperature you want it to turn off. The middle window shows the current temperature. It's pretty slick and easy.

I am sorry but I do not know personally. The information they provide states "AC 110-240v(chance)". I do not know what "chance" is referring to. The provided cord is the usual US 110v plug. I am not sure why your cord is heating up. I am using mine for an application where I am drawing less than 1 Amp for the equipment being turned on. Sorry not much help

The power cord on mine is .75mm² which is less than 18 gauge. Recommended load of 18 gauge cord is 5 amps or 600 watts. If you read the warnings on heaters. They say never plug into an extension cord. So you shouldn't really use one of these to control a heater. I do, but my little heater is 250 watts.
