I took these out for the first time in the White Mountains (NH) in September. The snow was over knee-high and very soft, so that about halfway up the trail we were postholing on nearly every step. Warmth and waterproofing: These were amazing on both fronts. Despite being constantly knee-deep in snow, the only reason my legs got damp was that they're so warm I was sweating in them. Fit and wear: These were easy to get on and fit my leg well (just below the knee). The strap does occasionally come loose, so I had to pull it tight periodically and on a couple of occasions some snow escaped down the back of my shoes. The top of the zipper would also benefit a lot from a snap or other secondary closure, since on a few of my worse postholes the top came undone a bit. Since these can be fastened with the strap tightened already, I just sewed the strap at the tightness that fits me (see pics), and I'll keep a safety pin at the top. Overall, these were a great buy at the price, and I'd definitely buy them again!

These are the only gaiters I've found so far that fit my fat calves. No, they are not exactly high quality. They will not last forever, and you might need to break out a needle and thread to deal with loose stitching. However, they're dirt cheap. The current price is $8.99, so I'm not sure what people expect for that price. I would certainly prefer higher quality gaiters and would be happy to pay the premium (to a certain extent) if I could find ones that fit, but these are perfectly adequate.
