My initial thoughts about the Tomshoo Titanium Alcohol Stove were "this thing is too small, but very light". So to be fair I pulled out my Trangia alcohol stove for comparison. Trangia Tomshoo Body weight: 2.4oz/70g 1.6oz/46g Total weight: 4oz/114g 2.2oz/62g (this included accessories, not bags) Height: 1.5 inch 1.5 inch Diameter 9 inch 8.5 inch I boiled an 8oz cup of water to compare both stoves. The Trangia toke almost a minute less to boil water, but it should since is slightly bigger and generates more heat. The Tomshoo is nice little stove, but does have some drawbacks. The Trangia comes with 2 lids, 1 to smother the fire out and 1 to store unused fuel when finished. Both store conveniently on each other and the stove. The Tomshoo comes with neither of these nice to have items. This became really apparent when I tried to put out the fire after boiling water on the Tomshoo. Also, the unused fuel was almost unrecoverable on the TomShoo since the fuel pours out all the air holes when returning fuel back into storage container. The Trangia has neither of these issues. My thoughts: The TomShoo is a nice little stove, very light weight and the cross stand is a nice added feature. However, after paying $28 for the stove i don't think its worth the price. At the time of this writing the Trangia is $15. Adding a cross stand is not worth the added price or weight reduction. I wanted an extra stove so I didn't have to remove the Trangia from its cook set and could carry 1 type of fuel. I could take the small stove and boil a cup of water for a quick lunch while on the trail for short day hikes. Not being able to easily put out the fire and store unused fuel is really a deal breaker for me. I'm going to play with it some more and time burn rates so I can get it down to an art and use just enough fuel, but even that may not work due to temperature variations and I go hiking and backpacking year round. Guess I'll keep using my Esbit, which works great but again only wanted to carry 1 type of fuel. Update: The TooShoo is small enough to fits inside the Esbit CS585HA solid fuel stove. Also, the stand for the Tooshoo rest on top of the Esbit stove. Planly stated, I can us the TooShoo alcohol stove and stand with the Esbit stove. A nice little set now.
