I have previously only used the canister type stoves for backpacking/camping because I live and camp mostly in central Texas so they work fine mostly. I know they have limited performance in cold but it never really gets that cold round here...till it does. Four day campout with my son's BSA troop before Christmas and it got down to single digits...yes, I know, you folks up north wear shorts in this weather, ya, ya, ya...this is damn cold for central Texas and too cold for those canisters. This trip made me buy this and I am happy I did because it works great and the cold will not keep me from my hot oatmeal and coffee in the morning next time! I have lots of these from China stoves and all but one has worked really well and they are very affordable. I have a benchmark test I do on all stoves. I have a fairly large diameter 1ltr pot with a heat exchanger on the bottom. I test how long they take to boil 1ltr at room temp in my kitchen. Conditions stay consistent that way and tell me what to expect. I tested this one with white gas and the canister (inverted) White gas was 2:36 and canister was 4:10 to boil 1ltr and that surprised me. I know its hotter but I didn’t realize it was THAT much hotter. Its plenty warm (mid 60’s) for the canister to gas off on its own right now so inverting it probably didn’t prove much. I don’t have a practical way to see if it would have worked well last month. Guess I could throw a can in the freezer? Or just wait  Out of curiosity only I tried to fire it up with denatured alcohol using both included jets but couldn't get it to stay lit. I'm sure there is a way to get it to work but not with what you get in this box. Not sure why one would want to do this though when you consider that by the same volume DA is 62% the BTU output of white gas and its also a little more expensive. Only think I like about it is that it evaporates faster if spilled. Changing out the nozzles with the included tool is wonky but this may vary from unit to unit. The carb pipe is in the way. It can be bent back I am sure but I didn't mess with that yet. Used a tool from my bench which was a little thinner to make the clearance. Not sure if this is much of a field problem though and like I said, can be solved. As I have found with most things out of China, the fit and finish is not perfect and generally it doesn’t need to be. Threads in aluminum are often not as clean as they ought to be. I have also many flashlights with alum bodies and by default I clean the burrs with a brass brush on the Dremel tool. This is no exception. I gave the bottle threads and the pump threads a once over to clean the threads, applied a little Vaseline to them and the O-ring and now there is no grinding like there was out of the box. Check the fittings on the pump handle as well, they may be not fully seated. This is by far the heaviest and bulkiest stove system I have but all like this are really and this is not really much of an issue for me anyway. If you are a weight weenie then why are you even looking at this type stove ;) All in all this is an awesome stove and think it will serve me well!
