Yes that would work because you have to attach the spike to the light before putting it in the ground. You could just use 3M strips to keep light in place.

These lights are relatively bright and the look is clean. They are bright for their size, and months later they still hold a charge. Mine are in a sunlit area which I’m sure helps. They weren’t quite as bright as I’d hoped, but clearly I was expecting too much. My biggest complaint is the plastic legs used to secure the light. I use the stakes and have them mounted flush, but the little cross pieces are somewhat flimsy. Once installed it’s best to leave them alone if possible.
