Yes, you just attach the wire to one of your coils. When the coils are firing, it will continue adding time to the hour meter.

yes just follow the directions for wrapping the "Induction wire" around any spark plug wire. once the motor is running it will create enough induction current to start the timer running. I actually put a wrap of high heat electrical tape around it to hold it in place. These little timer meters work great

No, it only works on engines that have spark plugs (it gets it inductive information from the spark plug wire).

Bought this for a Predator 212. It screwed right into the airbox without a drill. and I coiled it around the spark plug 7 times so it would register. My wire was roughly 4 feet long. It works as it should. There is a battery on these things and only time will tell how long it lasts. The thing is sealed so either you will have to break it open to swap the battery or buy a new one. But if it were to not be sealed then it wouldnt be waterproof so nobody can really find one thats waterproof and not sealed. But overall I do recommend this product

Purchased for my Honda eu2000i generator (that does not come with an hour meter). Five wraps around the spark plug wire starting at the boot and easy to fish the wire thru to the meter mounted (via provided screws) to the top of the case near the handle. Cut away the excess wire that was not needed and it starting working when the generator was started. Measures tenths (one 10th = 6 minutes) and whole hours. This is needed to track when to change the oil. Only likely issue will be the non-replaceable battery.......when it runs out, time to buy another one. Unsure how long battery will last.

It works. Instructions didn't mention where to put the other end of the wire, but it's pretty obvious I guess (in the slot of the meter's case). Meter display remains on at all times, the little hour-glass blinks when the motor is operating (if you wired it correctly and it's not broken). It remains to be seen how long it'll last being on all the time like it is, but as long as I write down the time every couple weeks or so I should be fine even if it dies. For a few bucks, it's not bad. For installing the wire, I zip-tied one end parallel to the plug wire, made a 90-degree bend and wrapped it tight exactly 5 times (ending on the same side of the plug wire that I started on), made another 90-degree bend to get parallel again, then zip-tie tight so the coil doesn't get loose. Would have also put heat-shrink on at this point, but didn't have any big enough to fit over the boot that could also shrink to fit the wire. After installing the coil, I simply routed the wire around the motor shroud, installed the meter on the wire where I wanted it mounted, then stuck it in place with some heavy-duty scotch 3m fasteners.

Bought this to track the hours on my Crraftsman R1000 lawn tractor. Works great. I used double sided 3M outdoor tape to attach it on a recessed area near the oil cap. Just a few minor things to be aware of; I needed to remove many parts from around the engine to get at the spark plug wire. Not a fault of the meter. Just the nature of the design on this particular mower. When I finally got to the plug wire, I wrapped the sensor wire 5 times around the spark plug wire approximately 3/4" from the boot. I tie wrapped everything securely and routed the sensor wire up to an opening near where I planned on mounting the meter. I ended up with about 6" of extra wire length, so I snipped that off to keep everything neat. The instructions are not clear on how the wire inserts into the meter. I ran the wire the full length of the meter and forced it all the way into the base pf the slot. Also be aware that although the instructions refer to double sided tape, there is none provided. They do give you two small self tapping screws which you could use if you wanted to drill a couple of holes. The meter is very light in weight, therefore I used my own double sided tape to securely attach the meter, without using the screws. One other minor thing, again not a fault of the meter, is the red color. From the picture, I thought it would match the red panels on my mower. This isn't the case. If I knew there would be such a noticeable difference in color, I would have ordered black. But that's just me being OCD! All in all, the meter does the job, and I feel it is well worth the money.

by Marjorie's hubby: I bought 2 of these to put on my snow blower and generator to track usage. Finally got round to installing one on the snow blower. The concept is simple but my snow blower engine is encased in several shrouds and it was tough to access the spark plug cable. Once I got there and managed to get the 5 wraps on, things were simple. BUT for a few moments I was uncertain how to install the wire on the unit - it is simple, just tuck the wire in the slot along the base of the unit. A little more instructions on the card would help. I held back a star as I've only had it installed for 2 days - but I like it a lot - hope it is durable. I was surprised that it recorded I'd run the machine for 2 hrs already. Now I hope to be more prompt and diligent in oil changes. I expect it will pay off in better maintenance and longer life of the engine. Now to install on the generator which also has a deeply buried spark plug..

Hooked this up to my new Yamaha EF1000 generator and it works great. Easy to install (just wrap one end of the included wire around the spark plug wire close to the plug and stick the other end into the slot on the meter. It comes with two screws to attach it but I used double sided tape and placed it on top of the generator spark plug access hatch. Good price (half that of the Yamaha branded version) and seems to be working just fine. It has an internal non-replaceable battery and I am not sure how long it will last, but for the price if I get 2 or 3 years use out of it I will be happy.

It works. Wish you could change the battery when it goes dead. I installed this on my generator. It reads in tenths. So .5 is 30 minutes, 1.0 is 60 minutes, 1.5 is 90 minutes and so on. Hook up was easy. Just wrapped the wire around the end of the spark plug wire, as close to the spark plug as I could, 5 times. Instructions are vague. The wire needs to be inserted the full length of the slit in the back of the meter. Does not explain this in the bad directions. If I could change the battery, this would be 5 stars. Overall I'd buy this again and recommend it to others.
