This is my first and only steel tongue drum, but I also tried the A-Minor Meinl at a couple local music stores for comparison. After my first night playing with this, I am roundly impressed with not only the drum, but also the quick and trouble-free shipping (~two weeks to Canada, duty-free). Each of the eleven notes has a clear note, and is well-tuned. (They come ever so slightly high-tuned, to make it easy for the buyer to fine-tune it, if desired). They also are well-balanced relative to each-other, meaning the large and small tongues have similar loudness and similar sustain [this is in contrast with the Meinl drum, which had booming and resonate large tongues, with weak, tinny, and hollow small tongues.] The markings come pre-attached, but with a clear protective film that can be removed for an improved aesthetic. I expect they'd be fairly easy to remove entirely, as the drum is well powder-coated. The kit included: a small songbook with a couple technical paragraphs. Two semi-firm rubber mallets. A carry case with shoulder strap. Extra note stickers. Some 'C' shaped thing I have no idea what it is, and a few finger-tip mallet type things. It is quite easy to get a nice tone from the drum with either fingers or the included mallets. I strongly prefer the finger play. A very light touch will make the drum sing, but not too loudly (I can play this late at night without disturbing my neighbors). The tuning: A3 B3 C#4 D4 E4 F#4 G4 A4 B4 C#5 D5 I would recommend this drum to anyone considering a first tank drum or steel tongue drum for their home (or office!)
