I've never played the Hulusi flute before now, but I do play recorders, and I've played the chanter (bagpipe practice flute), and this plays like a mix of the two. I was impressed with the result. It has one drone pipe that can be opened or closed, and then of course the main pipe is used for the melody. The third pipe is decorative, but that's pretty normal from what I've read. I did want to be sure that this did have at least one drone, and yes, it does. And it sounds good with the melody pipe. FYI: I did figure out that if you're having trouble getting more than a couple notes (and you know ALL the holes are covered properly), blowing harder fixes the issue. I'd recommend this Hulusi flute, and may even buy another someday!
