If your washer is not all the way against wall you could rig up some type of magnet to hold lid open

This is a great shelf if you can't put anything on the wall. It has definitely helped organize my laundry room. There were some challenges putting it together, since it's best to assemble where it will be (to account for hoses and cords, etc.) this was especially challenging in my tight space. But, once you get past that, it is a great shelf!

This caddy is awesome! I have two teenagers that have more bottles, lotions, and conditioners in the shower that would never fit on the "normal" caddy that hangs from the shower head. We put this up in the corner of their bathtub and it works like a charm! Everything fits on it, including all the tall bottles. I also like the fact there is no metal to rust. It is also very sturdy and is holding a vast amount of containers! Someone else mentioned that the instructions were hard to understand. It took several of us to figure out how to make it shorter to fit in the corner of the bathtub. This pole is VERY tall. If you have 12 foot ceilings you'd be fine. But if you need it shorter, it can be done, but it may take a few people putting their heads together to figure it out. Hopefully someone will put up a you tube video for it.

This is very right sized - any bigger and the shelves would be bulky and not sturdy; any smaller and they wouldn't fit enough to be worth it. It's utilitarian, so not particularly attractive, but is well designed, has clean lines and is very neutral looking. Two small design suggestions; the option of an extra couple of shelves; and hooks on both sides, so that something hanging on one hook doesn't necessarily block the only hook on the next shelf down. I'm not using the towel racks, so if anyone wants extra, I'll send 'em; especially if you have an extra shelf for me.
