I do believe so. I haven't used a strict straight razor on it but every knife ive finished on this stone is shaving capable. I've shaved with a couple different folding knives to be honest

You don't have to soak it...I just run it under cold water and wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth.

this is a very fine stone for for a final pass on a razor-like blade. For a hatchet I'd not use more than 600 grit

I'll add my two cents to the confusion. The white/green side is slower cutting, but it does not appear to be finer, IMO. Despite what the seller states. Ruby/red side appears to be 3000, indeed. That said, if you use the agate side more lightly, it is possible that it can lightly burnish an edge to higher degree. Any… see more I'll add my two cents to the confusion. That said, if you use the agate side more lightly, it is possible that it can lightly burnish an edge to higher degree. Anyhow, according to what I can find, agate stone abrasive particles are microcrystalline quartz. Same abrasive in Arkansas stone. If this agate stone somehow has quartz particles 10x finer than Arkansas stone, I'd find that curious. The hazy surface finish the agate stone makes is eerily similar to what I get off of translucent Arkansas... which is often stated as 1200-1400 grit. Despite the fact that the ruby side cuts much faster, the surface finish the ruby leaves is more reflective. see less

This is a fabulous little stone. It polishes some of the hardest blades I own to a mirror finish and extreme sharpness. It's very small size is so convenient to carry in anything anywhere. What a great value. If you are worried about any of the negative reviews please read them. ALL of them are based either on the size, which is utterly clear in the description, or on the stone arriving broken... At which point the buyers should have returned it for a free replacement. Very good value and very good quality.

After seeing this advertised with large 3x7 inch stones, I ordered thinking it was similar sized. I was very wrong. This is 1x3 inch. Barely enough to do a small pocket knife. I kept it because I still had a use for it. Then I dropped it 3 feet and it shattered in a million little pieces. 4 star because it still was a nice stone.

The golden side of this honing rock is pretty course. It will take a new knife without and edge down very quickly. The other side is extremely fine, it's good after you have a good sharp edge. It will put a keen fine tuning edge that will be "arm hair shaving" sharp. I've got NO problem with this product...

Two halves were slightly separating on one end when they arrived. Very easily peeled apart. Now they're almost exactly the thickness of original KME stones, saving adjustment time. Can't say if they will all peel apart so easily, but mine did, and it turned out to be a good thing.
