No, but if you turn off the lights and your fish glows, you have a problem..

My field experience with house-power devices is you have to be within a meter/yard for any hint of a detection, and the higher the power flowing the greater the detection distance. Roughly, a conductor that is charged but not carrying power (electrical current) only has an electric field whereas if there is power flow there is also a magnetic field that increases detectibility. This meter is suitable for "casual" EMF detection. It IS NOT marketed for safety-critical detection of hidden electrical conductors in preparing for electrical power work. I do not know the level of your academy. Nonetheless, I should mention that EMF is all over the universe except, the absolute |vacuum| that no one has any information about it again except, forty-seven hundred scientists. You could read the EMF between two small disk lithium batteries while you are tapping them on their negative sides rapidly (negatives have more effect to generate EMF while touching each other). This meter could measure the EMF between the batteries up to 15 mG. Or a piece of wire (looped) and a magnet in movement. The device gives me a better reading when I approach it from its front lower-back to an EMF field. The item is so cheap that I did not bother to open it and take a look at its circuit. Therefore yes, it doe read phones (all phones in the market), computers, microwaves, power supplies, electric or electronic fields (AC or DC), motors, and or metallic moving objects respectively to their masses, material, distances, and other factors. You could even overload the meter by moving a small neodymium magnet in front of it. If you are in serious research, should use an American or a European made meter. Best regards, see less

There is so much EMF in the environment, I'm not sure if you could isolate something like that, but it is a very sensitive device, so maybe.

This device takes three AAA batteries. By the way, it also displays current temperature in both C* and F*.

My husband didn't like this meter. He got another meter that plugs into your iphone and you use an app. It works great. He works in the oil field and they have to test pipe to see if it is hot.

The maximum measuring ranges, from the label on the back of the unit, are 1999m Gauss or 199.9u Tesla.

I have not opened it yet. I do know you can email the company directly as I saw other questions and answers on their website

I would do is set the meter to mGuass (that is the left arrow button). Start from the closest corner nearest to the tower. If the meter show more than 5.0 mguass continue to walk away from that corner until the meter goes below 5.0 mguass. at that point research what is the safe reading. I hope this helps. Reads EMF well. After using it i went back to my old cell phone. The G4 spiked high radiation constantly. I never put the cell phone to my ear, but i couldnt get 2 feet away from it without the meter beeping off. I recommend everyone using a device like this. We are bathed in FMF . Its helpfull to know just how much.

I wanted to see if the LED's installed were giving off EMF that interfered with the garage door. I tested them with incandescents, and then the LED's were definitely giving off more measurable readings. I now have to find alternative LED's that don't emit the same level and try those. I will be taking this with me to the lighting store to test them there.

I needed something less bulky for smaller EMF detection within the house, car, etc. Very easy to use. Great read out and very thankful for the 'mute' button as everything in our house seems to be over the limit!! Went to Ethernet cables and replaced multiple wall sockets to bring levels dramatically down.

As far as I know, the project is very effective. I didn't verify its accuracy with any more mature instrument, but it's quite easy to test it in the microwave and other household appliances. This is easy to read, but you must look up the research from external sources to determine if the instrument actually absorbs harmful EMF levels. Overall it was awesome including the battery is a great cheer!

Meterk's EMF detector works exactly as described. I used this EMF detector to do a lot of testing on the equipment around my home, and I was surprised to find out how much radiation was emitted from these devices. I tested it on my laptop, wireless network mailbox, cell phone and my electronic alarm clock, and they all had too much radiation from them.
