Practical and reasonably priced. Lets you know straight away how much power various devices consume, makes one aware of "what goes on" in your home grid: For example: - A Pure One Flow radio 3.5 W when on, but when turned off while charging its lithium battery it consumes 4 W. - An Alba shredder 115 W to shred an A4 sheet against 200 W of specs-nice surprise Alba ! - A Tefal "Quick-Cup" kettle 2600 W against 2500-3000 W of devices's specs. - An LG LCD 18" TV 26 W on (against 30 W device's specs), 11 W on Energy Save mode* and 0.2 W (200 mW) while on standby (sleep) mode. - An Epson printer 5.6 W on awake mode, 20 W while printing a B/W document, 1.6 W on sleep mode, and 0.2 W when turned off ** [*Energy mode turns the display down from maximum, medium , minimum to completely off on TV while the audio stays on. ** Turned off: Unplugged from mains, "turned on" to discharge capacitors (as they take time to discharge), then plugged into the mains again] Although I did not check against an Amp meter, the display indicates 0.0 W when no device is connected, so it's not leaky at least. And when devices are connected values displayed are reasonably within their manufacturers' specifications. Perhaps importantly, this energy monitor / power meter is that it doesn't need batteries to support its memory. Also, its latest version, comes properly fixed upright when plugged in, see photos for more information. All in all sensible design.

I bought one of these as a matter of interest, to see how much energy I was using in various applications and see what the idle power use on some appliances were like. I tested it on low loads (2W led bulb) and intermediate loads (Ecoair DD122 Mk5 dehumidifier ~300W) and my computer (~100W). It even worked for my 2kW kettle. It read what I would expect for those appliances (tallying with energy consumption numbers from other users of the DD122, what my PC is expected to use and the power rating of the bulb and kettle). It can display current power usage (watts), total usage (kWh) and cost based on a programmable unit cost of energy. It only takes one setting for this, so if you are on an Economy 7 meter or have any other variable tariff, it won't calculate cost accurately. It is compact so it doesn't obstruct adjacent plugs. It also remembers the readings and settings after you pull it out of the socket and leave it awhile before plugging it back in. On the downside, it has a flat forward facing screen which is a little recessed into the housing. Given the low position on the wall that most power outlets are, it makes reading the meter a bit more inconvenient that it could have been. Numbers can be obstructed by the body and the display contrast is pretty poor. However, it is competitively priced and does what it sets out to do, with simple intuitive controls.

Used it to monitor a 700w heater in my shed. But also tested on a printer and various other powered devices to have a play. It is small, and the LCD screen is hard to see. You need to be at a good angle with light or a torch. It does what it is supposed to, put in the price and even tells you the cost. I might buy another as it is an eye opener on how much running something can cost.

Works nicely to display current power usage but IMO could do with a backlight on the LED screen, as its not as if you would leave this plugged in 24/7.

Does exactly what you would expect it to do. The screen is a little hard to read unless straight on, but its expected for the super low price.

Does what it suppose to. Keeps its measurements after unplugging it so you can turn it's socket off.

Instructions somewhat limited and 'strained English' but so far think it works as intended - although I'm getting funny readings which may be because I have not fully understood the instructions but could be because the items being checked use rather more or less power than their ratings suggest!

This a great little device! The instructions were accurate and easy to follow. I would echo other comments that the display is a little hard to read in low light (there is no backlight) but the display is very clear. If you enter the cost/KWh the usage is clear in pence. Really good value for money.
