This is a directional microphone that is designed for close interviews. If your background noise (crowd, wind, traffic, ect.) is loud hen it will be picked up just like any other microphone.

This microphone will work for that but the quality will not be great. In order to capture the voice loud enough you would have to turn up the sensitivity in your camera which will add in a hissing noise. It will be alot better than the internal mic especially if your using a dslr.

I am using it with a Nikon D3300 and it works great! Really reduces the noise of the auto focus when shooting video.

Yes, it should. I have used it with different on-camera mounts as well, although if you load your DSLR with an on-camera light and a mic it can get top-heavy, but the mic is fairly lightweight on its own. It doesn't hinder any movements or get in the way of shooting.

My first use was in a church sanctuary with horrible accoustics and the recording didnt pick up much echo or ambient noise

It would probably work alot better than just plugging it straight into the camera because the amp on the camera isn't that grate. Does the canon HF R21 Camcorder have a 3.5mm microphone jack? If so, then yes, this works with any camera that has a 3.5mm mic jack. I personally use it with my canon t3i

As long the jack fits it will work great

Upgraded my camera to one that has a mic jack (finally) and after lots of research chose this one. It is easy to use, takes a regular AA battery and works great. The battery door can be a bit tricky but it seems to get a long life out of one battery so I'm not too worried about it since changes wont be frequent. I do wish it came with a dead cat wind cover, but for the price I just made my own for a custom fit and it works well enough. Sound was pretty clean for a mic at this price-point and SO much better than the in-camera mic, definitely worth grabbing if you want to shoot video.

I really loved this piece of uni-directional shot gun microphone. It is well built and very affordable for a beginner like me to create videos for my youtube channel. I set up this very quickly and it has some shock absorber below the microphone. For nice audio pick up from 10-20 feet straight to camera, we can use this is cameraman also wants to talk ( cardiod pick up ). I am very much satisfied and full value for the money I spent. Its my daily vlogging microphone although I have some Rode Wireless go. I also use this with iphone but with two adapters sold separately.

Unlike many items on the market, this TAKSTAR SGC-598 is only 35 dollars. It has just about the same sound quality as the higher end camera microphones. I have been using this camera for my DSLR Canon camera. The one problem I had with this mic the quality of the materials. It is made with cheap plastic along with the cheap foam that goes on the end of the mic. Every time I screw on and off my camera, it feels like it is going to break. but other than that, It's good. Unless you need to record some sort of voice over, I recommend getting this Mic

This is an amazing microphone. I was recording a video next to a running outside AC unit, and it canceled out the noise. The microphone is very directional. Very rarely needs the battery to be changed. I've accidentally left it on for 24 hrs before and the battery still lasts months. The audio quality is superb, its better than my stand microphone I have for my computer. I might hook it up to the computer to do voiceover work. I would recommend and definitely would buy again.

If you have even looked into budget audio solutions for DSLR filmmaking I am sure you have heard of the TAKSTAR. The myth, the legend. There are many videos out there comparing its sound to higher priced microphone solutions for your DSLR but at a crazy price the TAKSTAR blows some of them out of the water. This is a must have for anyone with a DSLR, I mean how could you not purchase it at this price?

It is way cheaper than a Rode mic and has much better sound quality too, I watched many reviews on YouTube about this mic so that my Nikon D3200 would sound amazing when doing videos. this mic will not disappoint. one concern is where it connects to the Hot shoe is a little weak but if your careful and not taking toxic masculinity out on the mic when installing and and tear down from your camera it will be just fine!.

You are definitely getting your moneys worth with this little one. I have never owned a different microphone before so I can’t compare the quality to much more than the built in microphone that my Nikon has and the difference is MAJOR! Best thing if you’re looking forward to grow as a blogger / or YouTube channel. 5/5 from me for sure!

The mic is powerful but it does pick up a lot of ambience noise, and it is kind of noisy on itself. It would pick up sound/ambience sounds as far as 45 feet away. I prefer lavalier mics. I got this because I needed a TRS mic with self power to use with my Canon Vixia (nothing without its own power source seems to work with my cam). However, if you need this kind of mic, it is a good buy for just $20. If you plan to use it with a stand as a boom mic, I would recommend you to order the cable extender (https://amzn.to/2Ohjq0W), because the mics cable is way too short to allow that. If you do, remember to buy the screw adapter for the stand (https://amzn.to/2ARbz8h).

The battery life is very good! It's been on for hours of video.. and the many hours I forgot to turn it off. I'm still on the first battery. I've listened to several reviews comparing it to much more expensive microphones and the difference is minimal. I've spent thousands to get better glass on the camera and don't skimp on quality.. but I can't personally justify spending a hundred plus more on something that's only marginally better than this. If this were $99 bucks.. I don't believe there would be any more negative feedback than there currently is. Good microphone.. not just for the price.

It does it’s job, I have a Canon 80D & need a external mic for the holidays & Oh my for the price & quality of sound you can not beat. I removed the bottom bracket so it can fit in backpack. I also purchased the dead cat for wind cancellation whenever I’m outside. Great mic!!!
