It's wifi. No sensor needed. It does seem fairly accurate, but at the end of its range of transmission -- 100 feet -- things get a little dicey.

I don't shoot much video with my A7R. But as far as I can tell, no, the Meike remote only works as a shutter release/intervalometer.

I bought it primarily for the grip and extra battery capacity. I use the remote infrequently and run into the same issue, I always have to refer back to the the manual to set it up again.
By David Whitesell on March 21, 2018
No, it is designed to fit the a7 and a7R only.

Yes. Sort of.

While they may use the same battery, this battery grip is actually designed around the a7series body which is significantly different from the a6000. So no, it will not fit

It's a radio signal at 2.4 Ghz so you can use it without needing line of sight to the body IR sensor.
By Jay on January 16, 2018
no. only a7/r/s.

I purchased this for my a7s and have no regrets. The a7s comes with two batteries for a reason, you do not get that many shots per battery, this battery grip solves that problem nicely. While the a7s is a great camera it really shines with the mount attached, it become easy to hold and wonderful with vertical portraits with buttons of its own. The mount is surprisingly small and lightweight. For me the wireless remote is a real plus since I am getting into astrophotography. I just hold the remote control shutter release button down and it goes into Bulb mode, this sets off one exposure after another. This frees me up to do other things while the camera is busy taking a series of exposures. For the money it represents an excellent value.

I echo all of the other positive comments about this product but have one callout. When I first installed batteries and connected it to my Sony A7 I received a "battery not compatible" message. Strange as I had not read this from any other reviewers. I realized one of the batteries was 50% charged and the other was 100% so I replaced the 50% battery with a fully charged battery. That seemed to fix the issue. Just wanted to call that out in case anyone else has that problem. If the issues repeats I'll update this review. One helpful note.. the original battery door can easily slip inside the battery compartment of the grip. This allows you to keep it handy and not lose it (which I know I would). The quality and fit and finish are really great for this price. I have large hands and, while I love the smaller frame of the A7 mirrorless, this battery grip adds the right balance to the Sony 70-200 FE lens especially.

Awesome battery pack. This is affordable unlike the Sonys expensive one. It also has the remote so u can take pic without you being there with the camera. I normally use it by connecting wirelessly to my phone so I can see the viewfinder in my phone. Other than that I don't see any cons it's only pros for the price you pay. If you own Sony a7s or any a7 series I would def recommend this to you. Happy shopping guys.

The remote runs on aaa batteries and there is no on off switch so you have to take them out if uou dont want them to die. Also you need to set the remote to chanel 00 for it to trigger the shutter since there is no on off switch you have to do this every time you want to use it. That is the only reason it doesnt get 5 stars.

I don't know what the OEM Sony unit is like, because I could not bring myself to pay ~$300 for it, but if it is anything like the quality of this piece, I would have felt completely ripped off. The Meike piece feels cheap, nothing like the rest of my a7 or a7r, but it does work. Well, sort of...I had to put a piece of rubber band inside the second battery compartment to wedge the battery in and keep it from falling out once the case was closed. Also, it does not make the camera any more comfortable to hold or easy to use in the vertical format position--in fact, I like it better without the battery unit attached. In the end, though, I think it will hold up to the occasional use I will give it when I need extra battery life, and it cost no where near what the Sony unit does.

I bought this, it arrived quickly, and I put it on my Sony A7R a week ago and have not taken it off. It's a perfect complement, a perfect fit, balance and finish, to the A7R. I also tested the remote: dead simple. I am very happy. Now I want to buy another battery charger and two more batteries, just so I have spares when I want to rotate two batteries into this grip. I found the video called "Sony A7 / A7R / A7S Meike Vertical Battery Grip Unboxing" (search for it) very helpful as well, both pre and post buying this.

Very handy for full day outings, not so good when sitting on a shelf for a few days - the dreaded battery drain is there. I read a few reviews and it seemed that the well-documented battery drain issue from some 3rd party battery grips did not occur with these new grips, but I have seen it first-hand. 3 or 4 days turned off in the camera and one battery is down to 68%. It has happened a couple of times now. Other than this, I found it excellent and it was not off my camera at all during our trip. It drains down one battery then switches batteries when one is down. Makes it easy to swap out if you have a third as I did.

Before I bought this for my Sony A7 I read a lot of reviews and felt a little uncertain about my purchase. I can say now after using the product for a couple of months is that I love it. Personally, I thought it was well made, Its nots cheap thin plastic as some people have said. Its really good quality. Also some reviews have said the grip texture is a different pattern, honestly no one is going to notice. I've have used the remote several times during photo shoots and It's been really nice. I will say this, be sure to take your batteries out of the remote once your done. the remote doesn't turn off and it does drain the batteries faster then expected. Once thing that is kinda of a pain was the directions. The directions on how to use the remote is poorly written, but one can figure it out by watching some youtube videos. In my opinion this is a quality product and I would purchase this any day over the Sony grip, which cost twice as much. I haven't used the Sony grip, but I can't see why it would be any better.

I can't imagine there is a reason to get the Sony version. This grip feels great, it goes on easily and does the job of extending life and making portraits easier/comfortable. The shutter button is not raised very much, about as small as the one on the camera. It does have a satisfying click though. The dials are quieter than the cameras and have slightly less resistance (not a complaint, just an observation). This is one of the types of battery grips that requires you to remove the battery door cover on the camera. Luckily, it is easy to do and the grip has a slot to store the cover so you don't lose it. I'm very happy with the minimal weight it adds as well. Overall, this is a great grip and at the price, is a hell of a deal!
