I really don't need more lights, but at less than 50 bucks i couldn't resist, they got me with the high CRI claims I own two z96 lights and a cn160, all get use, none are perfect. When possible i use good old hot lights. So where does this fit in? First impressions: -Light appears nice quality -A touch warmer than the cn160 -A lot warmer than the z96 -Dimming seems to have minimal color shift -All plastic but feels solid enough -No lock for battery, my lenmars are loose -1/4" mount for all sides -filters attach via little clip-pins. not great, but could be worse.can't stack like with z96 magnets I'll be doing a length video review/comparison of it, but considering it's priced not much more than the cn160(which i hate the mount for) i would go for this one instead

...is the headlamp of an oncoming train. We've all seen the Chinese knockoffs of the deals thing. And if you've shopped Amazon long enough, you've seen the near exact product packaged twenty different ways from sixteen different vendors... but this isn't one of them. At this price, I've bought some of the junk, but this is the real deal. Now, I have no way of proving then claimed 95 CRI, but I've put this light next to the garbage ones (the cheap lights that either have a green, magenta, yellow or blue cast) and it looks pretty pure comparatively. More importantly to me, I've bought several of this companies larger lights and they are all consistent across the board (Imagine trying to white balance from four different color cast lights, ugh). The light produced a good amount of power for its size and the pattern is what you'd expect from this size. It's not going to light a studio or set, by any means, but it's great for some fill or rim light. The light power is adjustable by a rotary thumb switch on the back. There's isn't a power meter as some have, but I'd think the lowest setting would be around 10%, which is probably lower than you'll ever need. Several nice features that are included with this light versus the others are; a four LED power meter (accessible by a button), snap on filters (one diffuser, one yellow, one magenta), three spare LED bulbs, a sturdier mounting bracket, and four mount locations around the light. The power meter is a feature usually not included with smaller/cheaper units. I thought that was a thoughtful addition. Another unit I have has the filters, but they slide in from the top, instead of snap on. When I first received this unit, I was suspicious of the snap on design (especially because of the studs), but after use I believe it is a much more useful design. With my drop ins on a similar unit, there is nothing to hold them in, and care needs to be taken as they like to slide out. I was surprised at the three included spare LEDs, but after several went out on another unit, I'm glad they were included. Now, then mount has a good/bad point. The good is that it's much stronger than the cheap ball joints I keep receiving with other hot shoe mounted devices. However, the strength comes at an expense. When using the light on the mount, the light can only be adjusted vertically but not horizontally. On camera you probably normally don't need from an angle, but you don't have that option. Another added feature is that there are four options for mounting the light from any side. But the interesting function of this design is that the manufacturer states that you can combine several lights together via these moint points. As currently I only have one light, I have not been able to try this. This could be a nice benefit, or just a tedious task with not much return on investment. But it's still an option I've not seen on other lights. Much like most other lights in this size/price, this unit has the option of using either AA batteries or Sony V-Mounts to power it. Where this light pulls ahead of the completion is using the Sonys. The other unit I have (like most) takes the V-Mount inside the battery compartment and the battery doesn't fit very snug. Also, my other unit includes an adapter (that doubles as the battery door) to fit around the battery when mounted. If only it fit. It doesn't. Plus, it's just s lose piece. Now you have something to lose in the field. This unit has the V-Mount located on the outside of the battery door (door as in attached to the unit on a hinge). The Sony batteries snap securely in place. No fooling with adapters. Concerning use, I've used this light for some photo and video shoots as both a fill and hair light, with great results. But a better testimonial is from a friend friend who shoots video for a living. He's shot several lower budget features, but his bread and butter is shorts, commercials and music videos. Recently, in a pinch, he needed a small light and I had this one available. He ended up using it in several shots. One was indoors for a little back and rim light. The the other was an outdoor scene in a car. I saw the footage recently, and the light output was just want he needed and the color/fill form daylight car seven was flawless. I highly recommend this light and will be buying a few more for the kit soon.
