The body of the Violin was very greasy when it arrived so while it didn't look pretty on arrival, I was able to clean it up and get it looking shiny (I purchased the black finish) The pickup is functional, not the most appropriate pickup but it works. I get a much better sound recording using the bridge clip. I'd say for a student violin, I love the sound and feel. The shoulder rest that came with it is also adequate. You can get warm tones but you'll have to pickup some new strings and a new bow wouldn't hurt ;)
