This is a very solidly made ball head, made almost entirely from metal and it weighs 380 grams. The knobs have rubber grips and the top plate has four non-slip rubber pads. It is also fitted with a circular spirit level. The ball head moves smoothly and there are two knobs to lock it in place. Like another reviewer here, I'm not sure why it has two knobs. However, even with a 20x zoom (35mm equivalent of 500mm) there was only a slight movement of the head when turning the locking knobs (tightening by turning both knobs simultaneously seems to work best), so framing up is not a problem. At the base there is another locking knob as the whole ball head can be rotated, for which there is a scale marked in 15 degree intervals. After I received this item, the supplier accidentally sent me a second one. I contacted the supplier to let them know, and was told to accept it as a gift! So a real bargain! For the price this ball head is of remarkably good quality, so recommended.

This is my second ball head and I find this product is fantastic for the money. There is another uses who gave 3 stars by saying this is not as smooth or soft as other heads. While I think he makes valid points perhaps that review is a little misleading because it looks like he is comparing this product with other much-much more expensive heads. I actually found this ball head is more solid when it moves and is not as loose as my other head so I trust it more when I reposition my camera. I did several panorama shots with perfect control and the 2 knobs help a lot when it comes to fine control of the tightening.

I have been using this ball head under field conditions for quite a while now and it has proved completely reliable in use. It is much better finished than you might expect at this price and is actually very nicely engineered. Occasionally, I place quite a weight on it (camera and lens combined) but it is always smooth in operation and easily used, even in adverse conditions. Originally, I purchased this as a stop gap while I was looking for another tripod, but it has proved so reliable that I simply transferred it to my new tripod and continued using it. It does everything that you would ask a ball head to do and has proved reliable under real world, field conditions. Recommended.

An excellent replacement ball head, has a nice smooth action and a good firm hold. There is a 360 degree scale on the base to help shoot panoramas, the build quality is excellent with a good black coating that hasn't chipped yet despite several knocks. I love the Arca-Swiss type quick release plate that tightens with a screw clamp which holds the camera much more firmly, rather than the usual universal type
