Which side do you sharpen your blade (strap)?

  • The strap isn't for sharpening. It's to hone the blade down before each shave. Typically they have a canvas side for a rough hone and a leather side for the finish. In your case, you have a 45 cent piece of rawhide and a 3 1/2" piece of Chinese steel that won't hold an edge. I recommend spending some money on a quality… see more The strap isn't for sharpening. I recommend spending some money on a quality razor and strop, otherwise you'll get frustrated with this thing and eventually probably cut yourself. see less

Will I regret purchasing this? Seems cheap...

  • If you have the proper sharpening stones, go for it. It isn't bad steel, but you have to put some work into setting the bevel, just like any new straight razor.

      Almost everything was good quality except for the stand it looked pretty old and worked over. Also the knife blade is not pre stroped so it hurts if you don't know that and you use it before you strop it. A heads up would be nice.

      Good shaving kit, especially for the price. My husband is happy with it but he did say the leather strap for sharpening it is difficult to use.

      Loved it except the razor is very dull and I can't get it sharp no matter how hard I try. Therefore it cannot be used.

      Good shave set. You will need to purchase a honing stone to put and edge on the blade but the strop that comes with the kit maintains the edge excellently.

      Awesome product! The razor is really good quality to be so cheap. Great brush for the price also. The only complaints I have are the leather strap is pretty short and the razor doesn't fit in the slot on the brush holder.
