Good quality feel and look nice metal box. Sounds good for that crunch metal distortion sound. Good price point. Would buy again.

It's a poorly-kept secret that the key to metal distortion tones is found in tweaking the midranges. When it comes building a good metal distortion pedal, however, the Joyo Pocket Metal proves that, sometimes, less is more. There is a crowded field of competent metal pedals out there, including the venerable Boss Metal Zone and MXR Fullbore Metal. But while the assortment of midrange knobs on those pedals theoretically makes the "perfect tone" possible, it also leaves you constantly bumping and tweaking with knobs, which always seem "just a bit off". Fortunately, the Joyo Pocket Metal is a pedal that rocks as soon as you plug it in. There is no tone control for bass/treble - this has been replaced by a single "Mid" control. Still, you get quite a bit of versatility ranging from scooped (muffled, thumpy) mids, to boosted (punchy, clear) mids. The Pocket Metal has gotten considerably less hype than many of its excellent Joyo counterparts, but I think it deserves more praise. Having been recently disappointed by the low output of the Joyo Hot Plexi, I was pleased to find that the Pocket Metal is plenty loud. You also won't miss having an independent bass control - it has plenty of low end. Actually, the Mid knob can do quite a bit to emphasize or de-emphasize the "thump" effect of the low end, as well. I also was quite happy with how the pedal responds to higher notes and lead guitar playing. While it isn't quite as melodic as many high-gain overdrive pedals, the individual notes are well defined and can sustain quite a bit with the "Dist" knob turned up. Also, while the pedal produces some noise, it's quieter than I expected it to be given the level of gain. The build quality is what is - probably better suited for home players and recording than a live setting. But at this price point, you get no compromise in tone quality or simplicity. I'm not a huge metal player, but this just became my go-to pedal for all things metal.

This is a great pedal for old school metal. It doesn't have a lot of crunch, but a good smooth distorted sound. Great for endless pedal tones and moving fifths. On it's own I think the sound is a bit unconvincing, so I put an eq in front of it which opens it up to very good tonal possibilities. This is a great way to get very decent metal tones without having to drive an amp at high volumes.

It's not bad. I still have to play with it a little. I'm using a Line 6 Spider IV30 and a Amplifi 150 amp. I have to set my amps to a clean setting , but the amps have presets that get to be a Paul when turning the amps on.

Well after coming to the conclusion that the 3 distortion/overdrives on my board were lacking over the top gain I began the research and sound demos on YouTube and came upon pocketmetal. What I wanted was plenty of gain and fast dial ability. What I don't like in many high gain distortions is too many knobs and hate stack knobs, I like to play not over dial and on fly quick adjust.

So much gas of late it's truly remakable that this $30 pedal provided the most fun. Dropped to D and smiled for an hour, just pretending to know what I was doing.

I have been searching for years for that ultimate, 80's distortion tone and I do believe that I have finally found it! This thing has shimmering highs and thundering lows! I am running it through my Bugera V22, all tube, 22 watt amp. This thing growls like a "tiny beast"! It sounds fantastic with single coils or humbuckers! It is very transparent and all notes and chords stay very clear. It does not get muddy, like some pedals. I like it so much, that I might buy several and put some away, just in case they quit making it or something. I have owned the Boss Metal Zone and this thing blows it away! Very simple controls make this thing a true gem. I sat down with it today and could not put my guitar down. This pedal will definitely spoil you and has amazing tone! Crazy what you get for 30 something bucks!!! Don't think about it, just buy it. You won't be sorry.

Simply killer pedal. This will be my go-to if I have to use pedal setup (vs. amp/rack). Great price, great quality of distortion. Great distortion while still provides great clarity of the notes. That mid knob is the key! This is my setting Volume: 12 o'clock, Dist: 1-2 o'clock, Mid: 1-2 o'clock..you still need that mid to cut through.
