It was love at first sight. This printer was a huge upgrade from my old Monoprice Maker Select and Wanhao I3 Plus. I swapped in a larger .8mm nozzle, because I bought a big printer to print big things. On my 2nd test print with the new nozzle, the machine thermally ran away. Most 3d printers have a thermal runaway protection feature, including this one, where if the machine notices it's taking too long to heat up the nozzle it will kill the power. This machine did trigger thermal runaway protection, and to try and troubleshoot it I reset it and killed the part cooling fan to make sure it wasn't blowing on the new nozzle (thus making it harder for the printer to heat up, thus potentially causing a runaway error to trigger.) On this 4th print, the runaway protection did not activate and I'm glad I was sitting here. The extruder motor started to slow down, the extruder temperature on the LCD screen dropped to 86 degrees, and then the hot end block got so hot it burnt the silicone sock around it and the PLA filament started to smoke horribly. The stock thermistor, which is potted in something and then bolted into the hot end, melted as well. Now the printer says the extruder is at 86 degrees constantly, regardless of if the old melted thermistor is plugged in, unplugged, new thermistor plugged in, etc. The chinese new year starts very soon and I'm worried I won't be able to get any tech support for weeks. I'll go back and edit this review once the manufacturer helps me make this right, until then consider this review a big warning. Don't leave this printer unattended. I'm glad I was sitting next to it. Edit: I decided to not wait and instead just initiated an Amazon return for another of the same printer. I will update this review to five stars once I've had time to do a lot of printing on the second one. This printer has a lot of great things going for it hopefully mine was just a fluke. Edit Edit: The new printer has been running almost non-stop for 2 days now with no issue. I'm willing to write off my first experience as a manufacturing fluke. With all tools that use heat, always keep an eye on things.

This is my first 3D printer, but so put a lot of time into researching models and capabilities before going with the Sidewinder X2. Let’s start off by saying that the instructions are garbage. Clearly a bad English translation, but I suppose that’s the trade off of going with a smaller manufacturer. Good news is that there is an active Reddit community for other Sidewider owners and I was able to get answers by reading the discussions there. Printer did a decent job with out of the box settings, but some tweaks to the material settings in Cura have improved it further. Was able to get a good crystal dragon print in the fist couple of days. I’m still playing around with the first layer settings to reduce the elephants foot on the first layer. I was able to get good overhang performance and tight tolerance gaps within the first week. Included a picture of a few finished prints for examples. These were printed in the first 3 days of having it setup. Very impressed at the print quality for the price. Be prepared to do some of your own research with this model, but if you don’t need all the settings spoon fed to you, this is a great combination of quality, print speed, and price.

This is my first 3D printer so I wasn't sure what to expect. Originally I used Cura3D for my prints but was running into some issues with settings. A co-worker told me to spend the money and get a copy of Simpify3D. Paring this printer up with Simplify3D opened up so many options to push this thing to the limit. Spent about 4 days trying to figure out how to dial the unit in and was about to give up with having blobs/zips on the outside of my prints. But I finally got it, and damn this thing prints amazing! I leveled the bed with a feeler gauge at .063mm at all four corners and im about .051 at the center (i have a slight bulge but nothing out of spec for a residential printer). My current specs for my best prints are: Temps for my particular PLA is around 220. Retraction is .60mm and Retraction speed 100mm. No retraction z-hop, no coasting set, outline direction inside-out, i set my starting points at closets to x 300mm. I run my first layer bed at 80 and at layer 3 dial back to 65. No issues with PLA sticking to the bed. To solve my blob/zit issue the final fix was the retraction at .60mm and under advanced tab went to the single extrusion section and changed Endpoint Extension Distance from .20mm to 0mm. Right now for ultra fine prints im doing .16mm and for faster stuff and silks I'm running .2mm. I'm pushing the unit at 90mm/s (90% walls) without any issues. I pushed this up to 150mm for fun and it still looks great. Overall very very happy with this printer. Things to look out for... Make sure wheels are tight, make sure your z sensor is tight on the frame. I did have an issue with ghosting. I resolved this by putting down a foam pad (like a foam fatigue mat or those garage floor foam pads) onto my desk. Then I took the packing material the printer came in and cut that into blocks and used that under the feet on top of the foam pad. This soaked up all of the vibration at higher speeds and eliminated my ghosting. I think if you spend the time working to dial-in the slicer settings and making sure your bed is level you will love this printer. Its Fast and it's really really quiet.

I originally had the x1, and loved it. I had that one for a few years now for prototyping and creating some of my larger projects. I used it to print PETG parts, and it worked amazingly. I decided to pick up the new x2 model. And it was pretty much a better version of the x1.
