Great for the price and TON of FUN! Very stable and easy to fly, the trick button works well and the camera and video control is easy to operate while flying. The camera quality is not good, but it was only $40 so I didn't have very high expectations. It is very light so be careful in any wind at all outside as it's easy to lose control once above about 20'. The video records great so you can capture all of your spectacular crashes :-). I have an extra 5 batteries so have a ton of fly time and each battery provides up to 10mins of fly time. When the battery is done it comes down pretty quick without much warning.

I ordered one for my son last year for Christmas and he loved it. It's sturdy enough to withstand the shenanigans of a 13 year old. He even got it stuck in a tree for a few days and when it came down finally with the assistance of a neighbor, it was still in tact and working. We liked it so much, I ordered another one this year for my nephew. The only downside is that it comes with 1 battery only that lasts for about 7 minutes of flying time. Definitely not enough fly time. I would rather they include more batters and bump the price up a bit.

Buy extra batteries and a charger with multiple ports. It takes some practice to fly but the learning curve is not bad at all. I was able to fly mine for an hour while cycling the batteries through the multiple port battery charger. It is light and doesn't do too well in winds stronger than 10 MPH. Not my first drone flyer but it's by far my most favorite. The I didn't give it 5 stars because the battery life was horrible. But the extra batteries to cycle through made this a worthwhile investment. The lithium batteries do get hot after they run out in the drone. Not sure if it will do more than get really hot but I fly my drone in my yard.

Full Disclosure: My first drone. Was also a gift. For a geek who has everything computer-related, this was a pleasant surprise from my mom for Christmas. I'm starting to get the hype around them. Pros: Even in the thin Colorado air, it has zero issues (on a full charge) getting up over 100' in the air. Camera does fantastic daytime stills and video Hilarious to chase pets across a hard surface floor. Oh wait, did I type that out loud? The Eversion 360 is a cool feature, if nothing, to show your friends you have a drone that can do something fun Replacement / extra batteries are cheap. Very light, doesn't mandate FAA registration As someone who never understood the hype around drones, has turned me into a fan. If you're stuck between an RC helicopter or this, get this. No question about it. Cons: Learning curve is a little steep. Do yourself a favor and get on Youtube to learn about it. (xtratalk1 on Youtube has some great videos on this model) Battery fly time is 5-7 minutes, depending on how you use the camera VERY light. If you fly it outside, expect a neighborhood trek at least once to find it again (whoops) Some highlights from my first con point (and the link to the Youtube guy) Initial Sync: Power on both drone and controller. Wait for drone lighting to flash slowly (instead of quick) then move throttle up once then down again. They're now synced. To reset the alignment of the controller / drone - if you notice the drone not taking off straight up, power both controller and drone on, then move both levers down and to the right. Drone will start flashing - let go of the sticks and wait for flashing to stop. Doesn't fix everything, but has been a HUGE help due to some problems. Pro Tip: FLY WITH THE GUARDS ON. I've wrecked so many times, it's not even funny. The guards are the only reason my blades are still on the first (OEM) install. Even if I were confident with this, and given how well it does in thinner air at higher elevation, I'll probably leave them on just to save me some blade replacement time. Will revisit this review after a few months and after I've tried it out with some extra batteries.

Got this for my son for Christmas and we had a blast with it. Beware: the instructions are terrible but thankfully YouTube has lots of videos for use and troubleshooting. Unfortunately, after he flew it into a tree, one of the motors started working intermittently and after some online research, I found this was a common problem with the soldering of the wires on the motors. I had to take it to a local drone shop to have it repaired and it's back to working like new. Great little drone, just stay away from trees and other objects.

I can't review entirely yet because I haven't flown it yet. What I did want to let everyone know is to be sure to purchase the upgrade with extra batteries. Drone was delved today, quality seems great for the price. Upon reading manual, I noticed that the battery flying time of the drone itself is only 6-7 minutes. Then it takes 75 min to charge. I bought 2 drones for my nephews as christmas presents and am glad I opened box to read about the battery. Today I purchased 2 of the upgrade kits and they won't be in stock until Dec 6. Hoping they arrive before Christmas. I think the kids would be a little disappointed to only get 6 mins of flight every hour and a half if not for the upgrade.

I got this bc i was very interested in the hobby and was just starting ...it is a great quadcopter for beginners...the only downfall i have found so far is that it is not wind resistant, it is extremely light.. it was taken by a gust of wind and went right into a tree and it took two days to get it out but it was completely fine (even with being rained on)...the stability is decent and its a very simply built machine and replacement parts are very cheap ..i do highly recommend but DO NOT FLY IN WIND

I bought this for my 9 year old son for Christmas. He love's it. I am very pleased with the value. Its a nice entry-level, low cost quadcopter. It took him some time to get the hang of it and he still needs a lot of space at the park. And no wind. The camera was much better than I thought and the kids love to take pictures and video to make movies to post on google+. The only negative is that one of the motors burnt out after a couple of weeks. The motors are cheap and easy to replace (easier if you have small fingers) but you need to replace all 4 motors to make sure it is balanced. All in all I think it was a good buy.

new,This is a great performing quad outer. it is very stable and easy to fly.I dinged it one star because battery life is not great.I like it so much thatI have bought three, one for my stepson, one for my nephew and one for a friend.Unfortunately,my original one quit working after spending a couple of months on a closet shelf. It still flys, but is inuncontrollable. either the flight control board or gyro has gone bad. stepson, nephew and friend's machines all still fly great.I recommend this and the seller.

I purchased this for $69.95 and the next day it was listed for $49.95. Tomtop corrected this right away and will be refunding me the $20 difference so I'm extremely impressed with Tomtop's customer service. My husband is a lefty so it was a little hard for him to control at first but once he got the hang of it, he seemed to really like it. It was a last minute Christmas Gift and I didn't want anything too expensive and this fit the bill perfectly. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE REGISTERED which I find important. Be sure to check the registry when shopping for a drone as many of them do need to be registered before use.

I bought this quadcopter because it was cheap and I have been told many times that flying a quadcopter is hard. I figured if I smash and destroy this one, at least I did not loose much. The copter is TOUGH. I must have crashed it hard dozens of times now, and so far all I have had to replace is one of the blade guards. The only complaint I have is that the motors are too weak to overcome wind, if you get too high up. More than once when flying high for a picture the wind took the copter away from me and I had to chase it down. One time it was stuck 50' up in a tree. Thankfully I have a friend with a climbing hunting stand and we were able to retrieve it. Since then I have kept it low, mostly below the rooftops. Video is decent, but if you easily get motion sickness you might want to skip watching it.

Great cheap quad with a couple issues. Inside an aircraft hangar had no problem flying up to 200ft distance and never losing signal. Fantastic in no or low wind, can actually get it to hover hands off. Outdoors was a different story all together. Knowing battery life and distance took off and made it maybe 50ft up and the green lights flashed a couple times, lost radio signal it tuns out. It dropped a little bit before regaining control. Tried again a little lower but farther away with same results. Im guessing much more interference around all the houses kills the signal. Will have to try it in a more open park but dont have great hope for it. There are many videos online for upgrading the transmitter antenna to an actual 2.4g not the little wire that is inside of it

I got this a few days before my kid's birthday and didn't get to the minor assembly and testing until the night before. I got behind a locked door and put the rotor protectors on. I did charge the battery as soon as I got it. Tested it out in the room. It gets to the ceiling very quickly on a full charge. Learning curve is not bad. It doesn't do well in anything more than a slight breeze and it goes pretty high. I'm not good at steering it if it spins and try to keep the red lights pointed away from me. It's very fun to fly at night, but control gets more difficult as the battery wears down. It has survived a few minor collisions with the house and bushes, trees and a few other items. Still working well and my kid likes it almost as much as I do. I got the 5 battery and charger deal and got a set of replacement blades. Not sure I'll ever need those. Extra batteries are a must. Would be a very frustrating toy without them. Camera seems like it would be tough to watch. The drone bounces all over the place. I shot some flight footage, but can't find anything on my phone or tablet to play it back on. This is 100% toy and it's fun for kids and adults. My kid is 12 and the suggested age is 14. That seems pretty solid. Watching my son fly that thing towards trees and rooftops might be preparing me for when he starts driving. Can be pretty scary at times. I have a rubber band on one of the front spokes that wraps around the battery cover/camera to keep it on during flight. Rough landings can cause it to open up when you take off again. Easy fix that doesn't detract from it. Instructions are hilarious. Poorly written in someone's third or fourth language. Basically says that if you fly this thing and hurt yourself or others it's due to you own negligence. Also seems solid from my experience to date.

got one from another website that separates with other company.). Anyways like this drone so much , never thought it would be so fun to fly it. crashed it a lot of times , got it stuck on trees etc - still working fine . Extra battery's are must!!! fly time without camera is 9 min on stock battery and 12-13 on 680mah battery . with camera mounted and turn on it about 4-5 min on stock , 7 min on 680mah... Flying is really easy , but make sure you'll do some training on big open field before going into complicated spots with it. Absolutely love them , especially happy about fact that i got 2nd one for free ( seller send me first wrong one - without camera , told me to keep it and sent me second one with the camera for free)

First-time quad buyer, flyer, teacher of young pilots. This thing is rad. Surely, it doesn't do all the fancy moves that the really expensive ones do, but it flies. It's not difficult to pilot, you could probably fly it in the house (if you wanted to) on day one - definitely could do so with a little practice. We've been trying to fly it carefully and land gently, but the few bumps it's taken seem to have been shaken off quite easily. Have not tried the camera yet, but since it's not one of the "real-time" cameras, I really don't care about the camera function. We are learning to fly and it's really fun. If you've read this far, please mark "helpful" thanks!

Great starter drone for my kids, for some reason they are able to manage control over this one much better than one of the nano drones. They haven't figured out the photo and video stuff yet (it should be interesting to look at the pictures that have been taken accidentally) just working on flying and some tricks. By the way this drone is durable, my kids have put it through some pretty tough training The battery life is super short which is the only reason for the 4 starts but it's nothing we didn't expect from reading the specs and reviews.

The Syma X5C quadcopter is an affordable model that offers an opportunity to get your feet wet piloting a drone without the fear of trashing or losing a thousand dollar drone and camera kit. For $50, it offers plenty of fun and practice at very low risk. I have flown the DJI Phantom and several toy single- and multi-rotor copters. This fits somewhere in between. It feels very much like a toy with the cheap, plastic body; however, it flies like a more serious quadcopter. Because the X5C is purely radio controlled with no input from GPS, altitude control is completely manual. That makes the X5C harder to fly than the DJI Phantom. So if you are aspiring to buy a Phantom or a 3DR Solo, the X5C will certainly prep you for the piloting aspect of it. What the X5C won’t prepare you for is the complexity of the setup and preparation process for flying more advanced drones. And that’s a good thing if this is your first quadcopter. There is no compass calibration or linking to GPS satellites. The X5C’s transmitter is linked to the quadcopter and there is no relink process after firmware upgrades. You just pull it out of the box, put batteries in it and go fly. Perhaps one of the best things about the X5C is that it is small and light enough to fly inside. Of course, you can’t really get crazy with maneuvering indoors but learning to control the throttle under ceilings that are only nine feet high helps you get a good feel of the drone. The X5C is equipped with a built-in camera. I use the term “camera” loosely though. If you frequent this site, there is really nothing about the camera that will be satisfactory to you. The resolution is 1280 x 720 for the video using a Motion JPEG codec in .AVI file format. The photos are 3.6MP. The sharpness in both formats is abysmal. While it is easy to capture photos or video via the transmitter controls, unless lighting is just perfect, the photos will just look like terrible. If the lighting is sufficient and the X5C isn’t vibrating too bad at the moment of capture, it can be an okay result. The Syma X5C delivers somewhere between 6-10 minutes flight time, depending on the conditions. The good thing though is that batteries for the X5C are cheap and pretty simple to replace. The remote has trim controls on it to keep it hovering pretty evenly. I haven’t quite been able to get it to hold without any drift. However, it is pretty close and good enough to maintain control and hover indoors with just a little input from me. Outside, the X5C does okay in conditions up to a light breeze. It is extremely lightweight, so that plastic body will really catch the wind if you get much of a gust. This is not something you want to fly in tight spaces outside. The X5C also seems to be pretty robust. I’ve crashed it from 8-feet or so indoors and probably close to 25-feet outdoors (onto grass) without so much as a broken rotor yet. In sum, the Syma X5C is a great little quadcopter that borders between toy and hobbyist-level drones. It has enough features to whet your appetite for a more advanced and more expensive package without the risk of breaking your heart if you crash it or lose it.

Well I was skeptical for the $48 price but the camera actually looks decent! It flies nice too.....Sorry my review isnt that detailed but after 5 minutes in my backyard and getting caught in the trees, I took it to a high school football field. Got it up a good 150' and a nice gust of wind put it in its new home on top of the school....My own fault and lesson learned but if its just a slight breeze be careful about letting it get away from you. The replacement arrived the next day thanks prime :)

The X5c-1 is a lot of fun to fly. This is my first quadcopter, but I found it helpful to start by getting it to hover with the front facing away from me and using the trim controls to correct any tendency it may have to move on its own in a certain direction. I found this calibration necessary to do after every few inevitable crashes. This thing is tough and easily survives falling out of the sky. I would suggest buying several spare batteries because once you start flying you'll want to fly for at least 30-40 minutes at a time. By the third hour of flight I had enough experience and control to follow/chase my boys around a field making short movies.

The drone is very easy to use and a lot of fun. Not only is this a great choice for beginners, but I would even recommend it for people that own other hobby drones. There is good fly time with the battery life and the drone itself can take a beating or in other words unplanned landing. This drone handles well and is pretty easy to maneuver. We set up an obstacle course and it performed well. Replacement propellers aren't expensive for this model Cons: There is a limited range with this drone. There is no warning when the drone is too far away from the controller and after connection is lost with the controller, the drone will fall. The camera is not that great and if you are wanting any type of quality recordings or pictures then this isn't the drone for you.
