I have not tried carbon fiber yet but I can tell you that etches Kydex material very well. Kydex is mostly used for gun holsters.

Wenn man ohne Schutzbrille hineinsieht riskiert man irreversible Augenschäden, also bitte haltet euch unbedingt dran!

This engraver is pretty awesome after getting it running. After installing some software from a USB drive, I was able to make designs of things based on drawling’s and certain images, albeit it has to be heavily modified to show up good on burnt material essentially. All the images I have printed have seem to be extremely accurate on cardboard where it would go over spots little by little to burn it in. Yes, this does make a little smoke but it’s smoke detector friendly. In addition, it also runs on lower power such as that of a power bank, another aspect I found really surprising as most expensive engravers and lasers have separate high-power things such as bigger batteries or even its own power out plug. This one seems to cut down on that barrier and simply uses my computer’s USB for power. I have so far burned in cardboard, small pieces of wood and thin plastic for my projects. Using the software is really easy with help of the instructions and using the engraver, having to focus for different objects as the only thing to tweak on the actual engraver itself, is also easy. The engraver is small though, about the size of a laptop, so unless if you’re wanting to engrave small objects, keep this in mind. Tldr; it’s a great mini engraver that can simply be plugged into a computer for use and has engraved extremely accurate burns.

ATTENZIONE PERO' NON è UN GIOCATTOLO, NON UTILIZZARLO VICINO LA PRESENZA DI BAMBINI O ANIMALI ED INDOSSARE GLI OCCHIALI PROTETTIVI, DURANTE IL FUNZIONAMENTO NON GUARDARE DRITTO IL LASER E SOPRATTUTTO NON UTILIZZARE MATERIALI NON CONSIGLIATI.

This thing is actually pretty cool, and it actually does work pretty damn well. However, it would not recommend this for someone new to this type of gadget for a few reasons that I'll get into below. The bluetooth connectivity works very well. I tested on iOS. The app is okay and works fine, but I couldn't figure out how to adjust the burn time (which is kind of important). The built-in rechargeable battery is a really nice touch. Makes the unit very portable. 1500mW is enough to engrave wood to about 1mm. It can cut standard copy paper (20lb) up through the thicker hobby/craft/construction paper. I suspect it can also cut thin cardstock. I will NOT cut any kind of wood (or at least I can't get it to). It will engrave (mark) most kinds of organic materials, as well as opaque plastics. The Good: Resolution is pretty good. Once I got the software sorted out, it was very easy to start marking/engraving wood and paper. It handles fine detail fairly well, although this also depends on the type of material and the burn time. It doesn't do any levels of grey, so some photos engrave well and others don't (high contrast images work best). It's also fun to use, it's self-contained, portable, quiet, and generally works quite well. And it's pretty cheap. It does everything the marketing claims, and there's a lot to be said for that. The Meh: The software itself is pretty easy to use, although it is quite limiting. There is no way to adjust the laser output; it runs at full power all the time, but you can change the run speed which is a roundabout way of scaling down the power. The supplied safety glasses are just very dark instead of the green color that filters out the wavelength the laser diode outputs. This makes it very hard to see what is happening while the laser is working. The max carving area is 42mm x 42mm, which is very small. The Bad: The printed instructions in the box were for the wrong model. It shows a separate power jack and USB port, but the DK-BL charges through the USB port. The software on the the thumb drive wouldn't install on Windows 7 (but might work on other versions), although the driver did work. I managed to find a newer software package online (search for "dk-bl laser software"), but this one also failed on install, but I managed to figure out that the application itself is a standalone .exe file in one folders in the download. The file is called rev20.exe, and it works fine without installing (just double-click to run). Meterk really dropped the ball on manual/software. Final Thoughts: If this machine had 2x the engraving area, it would be a lot more useful to a lot more makers out there. But, it's well designed and solidly assembled. It's also very small and easily portable (the internal battery is unique to this model). Being able to take this somewhere with no cables needed is very cool. This is probably a great thing to get to show the young budding DIY enthusiast how 3-axis tools work.

Purchased this as a technology teacher to use with students for line-art engraving and couldn't be happier. Setup was pretty easy thanks to advice in previously posted reviews and I was engraving within 15 minutes using a Windows 10 PC. Once the focal length is adjusted for material thickness (make the dot as small as possible), the quality of the images was VERY good and the engrave time relatively short. If you are looking for a laser cutter and/or professional grade engraving unit, this is not it. If you want to dip a toe into the world of engraving wood, this is well worth the money.

So far so good. It uses an IAP/STC 15F2K16S microcontroller, which Google spits out an English PDF with all tech specs and programming details. There is also a dinky switch to allow “1A” charging vs 500 mA that is accessible through the hole for the power button, but the ETA9640 converter supports up to 2 A, technically. Max current draw I see is ~850 mA with the supplied cable at 5.09 V. For those who complained about the laser dying after a few hours of use, they probably missed the note about <=30 min of continuous use for the laser. A new one can be had for $20 on Deal Extreme if you search under “Neje”. Bluetooth LE is handled by TI’s CC2541 with a max transfer rate of 2 Mbps. All structural screws are standard M3x10mm. Travel range of the motors are ~42 mm, but I don’t know if they are being stepped in full, half, or smaller microsteps, but the motors are controlled indirectly through the STC uC. There are 4, Unmarked SO-8 chips that appear to be MOSFETs for controlling the motors themselves. Looks to be ~13 revolutions for full travel, end-to-end. There is an unpopulated fan header, “EX IN” and “EX OUT” headers. The latter two are next to a CH340C chip, which appears to be a USB<->Serial converter. Don’t know if they are directly hooked up to it or not. The power for the uC is done through a CMOS JFET linear regulator, the XC6206 in a SOT23 package. This is likely powering the CC2541 too. The fans and other SOT23 power transistors, 4 in total are A2SHB and one A1SHB, but can be replaced by PMV16XN (except the A1SHB) if you want to improve their efficiency. I look forward to hacking this sucker in the future to allow variable power output, pixel burn time, more than 1-bit greyscale depth, and greater resolution.

This machine gave me a few fights but once I got it set up - I fell in love. It has a strong plastic cage around the tray and laser. It connects to the computer through a single USB for both power and data. The setup files came on a thumb drive that installed super fast but needed an update (see noted below). The phone app is easy to find with the QR scanner and is very simple to use. It was very easy to locate my file on the computer, drag it to the engraver app and get working. The final engraving area is approximately the size of a school picture. This little machine gave me a taste and I'll keep it to do smaller stuff like coasters but I can't wait to buy a bigger one. This is a great entry level machine for crafters! Ok so I've gotta admit- I had some trouble setting this up. I'd tried and tried and was ready to give up. So I'm gonna give you tips for the install so you can love it as much as I do. First, don't try to use the website that is on the thumb drive. The Chinese government shut it down. lol Second, if you get the error message that the app can't run on your windows machine, go to the trusfer website to download the updated driver. If you have Windows 10, use the second download link (the smaller file). The app will be in Chinese - but if you look in your instructions - there are labels for everything vital in the app.Third, it says to adjust the focal length but it doesn't say how. Put on the glasses and turn the silver collar around the laser, it will get larger or smaller each direction. Make it the smallest point possible. Finally, don't give up if you run it through and you don't really see anything. Just leave it exactly where it is and run it again and again. Happy engraving!

I was thinking the setup would be difficult based on a couple reviews but from my experience it was very easy. I did not do a PC setup, I did all of the setup from my phone. It's a pretty easy process. Step 1. Scan QR code provided, and download the app. Step 2. Turn on engraver, open app and connect to Bluetooth. (Make sure the phone Bluetooth is enabled. Connection is made within the app, not under Bluetooth options.) Step 3. Chose an image within the app or upload your own. You can easily save images from the web and upload those too. Squares work best. I show some of the app in the video for your reference. I'm not sure how the PC install is but using it via Mobile Bluetooth it was surprising easy. And maybe the Bluetooth wasn't available on the 1000 model, but is on the 1500. It's perfect for small crafts, I plan on trying new materials like leather to see how it does. So far i like what i have been able to make with it.

I have always wanted an engraver printer and as this was in the range I wanted to spend for this I thought I'd give it a try. It has a small footprint so you don't have to worry about finding a place to use this. I find I utilize things like this more if I have a designated spot for it. I did a test print of an image I embroidered on a handkerchief last Christmas. It came out great! Set-up was easy all I did was remove all the packaging from the box, scanned the QR code from the manual to download the app, then I just followed the directions in the manual. I found when choosing an image to print that the more simple the better. My test print came out perfectly! This is such a neat tool to use I perhaps will try on different materials such as leather and wood next time. This definitely is such a nice purchase and would recommend to any crafter out there.

This machine does very well at engraving wood, and I find it to be extremely precise. I was able to engrave a detailed monogram into wood and it came out sharp looking. Just a little coat of varnish on top and the design pops! I like how the machine can be used wirelessly with an app over Bluetooth, or via USB connected to the computer. I used the app to engrave, and it was very easy. I opened the app and connected to the engraver, then selected my design through the built in file manager, and then sent it to the engraver. Depending on the material I engrave, the engraving time varies based on how flammable the object is. For example, I engraved wood, paper and even flower petals and it took only a few minutes. But when I tried engraving a silicone phone case, it didn't work, simply because it has a much higher burning point. The build quality is excellent. Included in the package were some sample pieces of wood, a silicone pad to stick things in place, and a pair of tinted glasses, but I strongly suggest that you don't look at the laser as it can cause permanent eye damage.

Arrived quickly (thanks Amazon). I'm going write this review to answer some of the initial questions I had about the product. Firstly, this does not really engrave to the point you feel a beveled edge. It burn-scores your material and leaves some charred residue afterwards, so be careful when initially handling your engraved item. I did accidentally smear charred bits onto the rest of my wood and couldn't get it out. This is not too much a problem from the product, it's just something to note about the engraving process. Secondly, the resolution at which this engraves was actually quite impressive. I've made a couple of medallions with some text on it and was so clear to that even the "nd" in "2nd" was clearly visible. I do however recommend you use a higher resolution image than the dimensions of your engraving area. At first, I saw there was a 50mm X 50mm area for the image so I drafted something with the same dimensions in photoshop. When I transposed it to the NEJE software, the resolution of the image was horrendous. I know I could have up'd the DPI to an insane amount but the software tried to resize the image the best it can to fit the engraving area. I find it's easier to work with higher resolution, so I set my canvas area to 1000px X 1000px. Lastly is the software. The software install guide was a little difficult to walk through, and I'm an IT guy by trade. I very well may have missed something, but the software doesn't actually get installed on your computer. It launches from the disc, or you can copy it to your computer and launch from there. The language translation isn't perfect, so don't expect it to be grammatically correct or have perfect spelling. That being said, it's not very clear on how to use the software, but thankfully it's relatively easy to fumble through. I'm giving this product 4 stars for two reasons, resolution and cost. This item is good for a hobbyist and cheap for the capability. The main issue I have is that it doesn't truly engrave and still leaves the product smooth to touch.

When I first got this Meterk DK-BL 1500mW Mini DIY Laser Engraving Machine I have to admit that the task of learning how to use it was quite daunting, I still haven't mastered everything I can possibly do with it yet. The instructions are intelligible however they are poorly translated and I think it would be easier to figure out if they were better translated. One of the issues I most had with the instructions were that they showed pictures of the program files that come on a USB stick, however what was in the USB didn't look anything like the pictures on the instructions, and that really threw me off. It says you need to INSTALL the programs, however all you really need to do is copy them to your desktop. I like that they included some pictures in the program files, such as practice pictures, and ideas on things that you can make. However I do wish that they would change a few things on the program to make it easier for you to move and place items like text and pictures. Once you get the engraver set up its fairly easy to use. The ON/OFF button is hid inside a hole for safety (the red button on top is NOT the power button). The more I tinkered around with the program the easier things seemed. You can use pictures from the internet or you can make your own in a paint-like program. I do recommend if you need to do any adjusting to the pictures you use, such as making them smaller or larger or anything like that, you use another program and then just save them to your desktop. The first time I made something I didn't realize how small it would be, you need to fill the program box if you want a rather large picture. Also, its important that you center your item and use the rubber bands to hold it down, otherwise the item may move even slightly and ruin your whole engraving. I wish they had some way other than rubber bands for this, like a peg board or something that would keep your item from slipping. This is not for big engraving, and you have to have something small enough to fit in the box in order to engrave it. However it can be used for many things, and is a great project tool and perfect for adding to my craft supplies. Would be great for making magnets or wood coins, you can even engrave the back of a cell phone case! Even though it has some things I would change, its an overall great product that works amazingly. The possibilities are limitless! ~Thanx~

Awesome! I might suggest eBoot 10 Pieces Sticky Gel Pads Non-slip Pads Cell Pads Anti-slip Mats for Wide Applications, Black I used these in place of the rubber bands. They are also sold in smaller packs. This makes loading and securing the item to be engraved much easier and quicker for me. The engraver works fine for an image up to 42mmx42mm. Laser moves side-to-side and platform for material moves front-to-back. Pros: Once an image is loaded to the device, you can print disconnected from pc. Can type text in the software to create an image PC software allows you to increase burn time(had no problem installing on Win10/64) Cons: I couldn't get the iOS software to work Rubber bands were a little cumbersome PC Software would be nice if it zoomed in(only zooms out) to allow scaling Awkward(minor) problems with pc software

This is a fantastic machine, for the price. It comes with preloaded demo etch, and it's exactly the same as the factory test etch, in place on the plate. Doesn't have a fan, but this is a non issue, the laser head is very efficient and doesn't need extra cooling. Both axis mounts are made from base mounts of old style DVD drives, don't let that bother you, those were heavy duty items, with dual support rods on both. Be aware that there are no limit switches, on either axis. I doubt there would be any issue with this, but you need to be sure that laser is centered on both axis, when you start your etch. On the back, you will find five push buttons, on the card, to move the head. It's partially covered by the back plate, but fairly easy to get to. Don't try moving the head by hand, the stepper motor shaft will mess up the guides on the position guides. As mentioned in the manual, you'll find that Laser won't work right, if you try to power it from a PC port. They recommend 1A 5V supplies for the two USB connections. You upload your sketch to the machine, then it is stored inside the machine. Once that's done, unplug the PC USB and plug into a 1A 5V adapter. The manual will tell you what to do with the big RED button on top. One thing to watch out for, is to stay with your machine, while its working. Not necessarily staring at it, but to be ready, when it is finished. It will repeat the stored etching again, if you don't stop it, by pressing the RED button to abort. The SD that comes with the machine scanned virus free, on mine. It only had drivers and software for PC only. The website that has the software for Android and IOS has a virus warning, when you try to go there. My antivirus had no problem, loading and installing the enclosed SD, but went crazy, when trying to upgrade. That was a small issue compared to the bang for your bucks, with this machine. Overall this a great machine for the money, does a great job for small item etching, and is a fine platform to use for home brew upgrades, for the tinkerer.

This review has a good chance of going up or down. I received my printer and was able to decipher the instructions. The manual is worthless and saying it is broken English would be a compliment. Meterk recommends Android operating system for Bluetooth, as iOS may cause a long time in downloading to machine. I would say it takes 3-4 minutes to transfer via Bluetooth to the printer from my iPhone 7= or my iPad Pro. I need to dig out the old galaxy tablet and see if it is any better. The Bluetooth lets you make an okay print from a jpeg file but has no editing available. Now my real problem the included software won't "unzip" the file comes up as corrupted. I have tried opening this on 6 different computers and 3 different operating systems (XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10) with 5 different zip programs. I have emailed their customer service to find out if there is a download package for the software if not it look like this guy is going back. They did get back and the new software didn't work. Took a YouTube/Google search to find a link that provided software that works. I am happy. I just have to remember it is not a GlowForge it is an entry level unit and functions has such.

I've always thought it would be so cool to be able to engrave our names onto leather tags for backpacks, luggage, purses, bracelets, necklaces, and such, or even pieces of wood. There are so many crafting possibilities, but lasers are generally so expensive. Well, I gave this one a shot and I was not disappointed. It arrived with the laser equipment, moveable parts taped down to avoid damage, along with focus glasses and a velvet pouch for them, an allen wrench for replacing the laser tube, a small wooden block to practice on, a USB stick that holds a 1GB micro SD card, and the user manual that has many languages, English among them. On the equipment is a piece of thick paper with a butterfly engraved on it. This was to show the machine was tested at the factory for quality before leaving. I thought that was a nice touch. My first and only hang-up was installing the driver on my Windows 10. The driver on the SD card, via USB, was outdated and would not unpack on Win10. I went to trusfer dot com to download the latest, which they had right at the top of their Downloads page, and it was a bit of a pain to get. On my high speed DSL, it took hours to download this 57mb file, and it failed a few times at that. I'm guessing their site has server issues that limit download speeds or something. I was able to get the driver with some patience, however, and everything worked perfectly once installed. This hiccup with obtaining the updated driver is the reason I removed one star. The rest was easy. It is powered by two USB cords, provided: one for the machine and one for the laser/communicating with the computer. I plugged one into a surge protector that had USB ports, and the other into the computer. I put the sample piece of wood on the machine's platform and held it in place with a rubber band. Next, I put on the focus glasses and turned the very end of the laser until the dot on the wood was its smallest. Next, I opened the laser software (found with the updated driver) and inserted a black and white image. I pressed the red button on the laser and it began outlining the wood block, figuring out the size of the work space. Then I pressed the Start button on the software and it began. It said "30" for burn time but it only took 11:34 minutes. It came out perfectly! I'm thrilled with my new crafting tool and can't wait to try more things. And if the laser tube goes out, more can be ordered at the trusfer dot com site. By the way, my Firefox browser threw up all kinds of warnings when I went to their site. I ignore the warnings and had no problems. My antivirus software also did not like their driver when I started it, but since installation, there have been no issues. I figured I should let you know in case anyone gets spooked by that.
