Gauge worked on the first try, ran the green wire to tach output off the coil on a 350 TBI. It won't read any rpm until the engine is actually running, not sure if that's my truck or the gauge.. But it seems to react reasonably quick and read accurately. The gauge pod is very cheap though and mine was missing the back side of the nut, so I had to drill it out and make a new nut/bolt... But still a cheap way to add a tach to a truck. Update, now that i wired the LED backlight, it is WAY too bright for nightime use, I wish there was a way to dim the backlight some, I wired mine to a switch so I can turn it on and off. Also you can combine the two black negative leads (one for the tach and one for the LED) at the same spot, works fine and makes wiring a bit easier

Not sure why some other reviews show pictures of a gauge with a needle, but mine arrived and looks just like the one advertised. The digital display is a bit bright, but there is no "Backlight" as others have mentioned. An LED dimmer will NOT work with this type of unit (as another review had mentioned). You need 12 volts to power this up, and a dimmer adjusts the voltage to the gauge and will not allow it t work properly (I tried and failed). So DO NOT buy a dimmer for this unit. Instead, find a lens cover or simply add some window tint to it. I have mine on a switch so that I can turn it off at night if need be. I bought the oil pressure switch to monitor my fuel pressure in a 6 liter Powerstroke. It does come with a sending unit that will fit into your fuel filter housing. You will need to purchase some adapters, which are super cheap. This unit was very well priced for what you get, and is accurate.

The tach works good really good but the back light is way to bright even when hooked into the factory dimmer switch instalation was about 3 hours because instructions where limited and resorces online for my specific vehicle where limited when trying to find schematics for my factory dimmer switch and like many have stated the back light is wayyyyy to bright they would of been better off using a regular dash bulb for this thing think im just gonna cut the back light wires and leave it as a none back lite tach over all for the price of this thing its definitly worth it

Nice little tach for the money. I felt that the instructions were lacking quite a bit, but I was able to figure it out. There are two long red and black wires - these provide power. The red should be hooked to a 'key hot' wire. There are two shorter red and black wires - these are for the backlight. The red wire here should be hooked to a wire that gets hot when the parking lights are turned on. Finally the long green wire needs to be hooked to the signal for the distributor. For my Chevy HEI ignition, this was a wire directly to the distributor cap. The response of the needle is nice and smooth, not choppy or jittery. The backlight is a very bright blue. The bezel is just ok, the holes in the back of it for the wires to pass through are on the wrong side for how I have it mounted (base down to the top of my dash). This seems wierd to me, the wires come out of the top of the tach itself when oriented upright. Didn't seem to cause any problems though.

Works pretty good, looks nice. Heads up to anyone with a three cylinder car like a geo metro or chevy sprint, there is a potentiometer on the circuit board which allows enough adjustment of the resistance to make this read properly for a three cylinder car. If you have access to a scope and square wave generator and other cool equipment you can dial it in precise although the POT is a bit touchy. If you just want it roughly close then put it in 6 cylinder mode and hook up to your car, get someone with a steady foot to rev the engine until the gauge reads 1500 (which should be 3000 RPM on your 3 cylinder) then switch it for 4 cylinder mode and adjust the POT until the gauge shows 3000 RPM. Full disclaimer that is just an idea for those without the fancy equipment my electrical engineering friend had, we went the cope+square wave generator route.

Two out of three of these worked well. I put one in my 1955 jeep last year, and it is very nice to see exactly how much oil pressure. The old jeep has oil pressure issues and is in need of a rebuild on the motor so this gauge helps me watch things until I can get it taken apart. The gauge seems accurate as I compare to the old gauge. This year, ordered one for my 1946 cj2a jeep. It worked for about 1 minute. I just rebuilt the motor and I NEED to see the oil pressure to ensure all is well. I dis-assembled the gauge and found the Voltage regulator pop'd. I was hoping for a bad solder joint or something. Anyways, I ordered a 3rd and that one arrived in two days. I postponed my first time startup on the rebuilt engine until I had a gauge. Connected the 3rd one and It has been working every since. The one that blew was not cross wired...it worked then just went out. Not sure what to make of the one bad gauge out of the three I ordered.

I bought this because I wanted a engine tach for both of my tractors, however this tach is designed for vehicles and will accommodate a 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, or 8 cylinder engine. Install was pretty simple, red wires to ignition positive, black wires to ground, green wire to the negative side of engine coil. Then I screwed the gauge down onto the dash. Installing on a vehicle is exactly the same. I love the pretty blue glow from the gauge light, and best of all, the gauge is very responsive! When idling, the needle on the gauge stays right at the RPM it should be and won't jump around like a race horse unless your engine is jumping around lol. While reving the engine, I get an instant response from the gauge, definitely a lot quicker then some digital tach's ive seen. The gauge isn't too big in size, about 2" or so, which means it can fit within a small space, unlike the big 5" gauges. Highly recommended.

I installed this tach in my '80 suburban to find out my rear axle gear ratio lol. Works like a charm and what I suspected: 3.73s. The gauge housing that was included bolted to the dash faceplate perfectly. The needle shows RPMs smooth, not jumping around. Yes the blue light is bright at night, not so noticeable in the day light. Overall very good for the price. Only downside is the bulb cant be changed for a different color.

bought this for my 1 cylinder go kart engine. checked it with a laser tach i verified against my car (was less than 25 rpm off) and in 4 cylinder mode it seems fairly accurate at idle and redline, less than 100 rpm difference each. i bought a pack of resistors because i thought i would have to make it more accurate, but i might not have too it seems!
