Questions & Answers
Listen to the video at https://vimeo.com/114601444 - this was recorded with the Aputure microphone on a Nikon D5300 camera. I was pretty far away from the musicians and you get a lot of crowd noise as a result.

No. This is a 3.5 mm jack that plugs into the camera. It is not a USB mic.

Actually Listen to how it sounds on the review on YouTube: https://youtu.be/3CIrbYxwik0 I feel like the GoPro Hero 3+ Silver has a really decent mic when you are sitting within five feet of the camera and it is not enclosed in a housing. Unfortunately for 90% of the time I'm using it, it needs to be in a housing even if it in in the skeleton housing. Anytime the GoPro is in it's housing the mic sounds like it's in a box (well because it is). So if you want good quality sound, I believe you will need an external mic. Which brings me to my review of the V-mic D1...... Indoor: In a quiet environment, closeup, I felt like the best sound was when the mic was used bare without any covering. However, with any background noise at all I felt like it sounded best with the foam cover. Outdoor: By far, I felt like this mic was fantastic outside. And I highly recommend using the fur shield when outdoors. Even when I vigorously blew into the mic with the fur, I didn't hear the wind at all. The fur did not seem to dampen the sound when used outside. Overall, I am really happy with the limited use of this mic I have done thus far. I will continue to use it and let you know if my review has changed. But, if you are looking for a reasonably priced external mic for your GoPro, or any camera for that matter, I'd definitely recommend the V-mic D1. There is a D2 available as well for a higher price which you may want to check out as well.
