Sometimes when the unit is forced to shutdown by the external thermostat, the afterheat temperature overswing contained within the fireplace will open the contacts in the fireplace thermostat until the fireplace itself cools down. If this thermostat is adjustable, I recommend turning it all the way to the hottest position, so that it will be effectively eliminated as a control point. That way the Anself external thermostat will more likely be able to restart the fireplace when it reaches its own set point temperature. If this still fails to solve the problem, you might have to consider bypassing the built in thermostat, so that the fireplace is always on, but please understand that the built in thermostat on some models of heaters and fireplaces also functions as a safety overheat protector for such conditions as when the fireplace is blocked or overturned. Another way to keep such a thermostat "on" would be to aim a small auxiliary fan onto the area of the thermostat. This will also help to prevent the overswing heat from turning off the unit after the Anself room thermostat shuts down the heater, and will preserve any built in safety function of the fireplace thermostat. Usually turning the fireplace thermostat all the way up is sufficient. see less

It will turn off at 35, but there is no off temperature setting. It just shuts off at 35 and back on when it goes below 35.

A heater with a two prong plug will plug into and work with this device, although the device is equipped for three prongs on both input and outlet.
