If it was hooked up to 12 or 24 VDC battery 1st observing the proper polarity, the solar connection 2nd & the load connection 3rd, it should have a display. Maybe double check your connections and try again.

You will get 12v out put

There are no setting in this device, I connected 6. 2vdc valve regulated batteries to my controller and its working fine. This is the second one I have had the first one lasted 6 month, just went dead no display and would not charge.

Generally if your total amps are less than 20 and volts are in the 12 to 24 range
By John Caldwell on August 24, 2017
Yes, it should when battery voltage drops below setpoint, typically around 10.5 - 11 VDC, or 21-22 V for 24 volt system.

If there is nothing coming from the solar panels it will show the night time mode. I have had it show down to .3 so it should show if it is receiving from the panels. I agree it is cheap but have not had any problems yet and i have use it for a year in a solar generator for hunting when the fire restrictions are high.

Great charge controller for the price! Fit the bill for my small solar generator project. For those wondering (as I did) the USB and 12V DC output options on the front only come on when you press the output (red) button, they are not on all the time. Display is one of the best I have seen for an inexpensive 20A charge controller. Solidly built, I will update my review after I have put in into full duty use, however through my preliminary testing it is operating just as described. the only thing on my wish list would be that it was a 30A unit.

I wish to thank Anself for building this charge controller. Wow, Battery voltage and usage (Amps) displayed on the screen. Two 12 volt outlets and two USB ports, very nice. I am still testing the two units I purchased. I have one concern which I will take up with Anself -- When the charge controller is connected to a battery, turned on, and not connected to the solar cells, I am measuring a 2.6 volt current on the solar cell connections. I don't think this should happen. I would expect voltage to be zero, and do not understand why. Other than that concern. Very well built. Nice design. Well thought out. Ships with two 12 Volt power cables ready to be soldered to whatever.... Thank you Anself for providing a great product at a reasonable price... Thank You!!

I can connect the input to just about any energy producing device and it seems to charge. I have mine on a wind generator. It is allot smaller and lighter than I anticipated. The quality seems a bit sub par, maybe it is the thin plastic, not that it bothers me. I am happy at how well it works and the price is fantastic, I got 20 amp which is (20A x 12V) =240 Watt. That is a lot of solar panel in my opinion. You don't want to run it near maximum for extended periods though, if you need bigger you can buy more than one at that price. The screws are a little small for my hardware, you don't need any large wires for this type of application though. The load screws are perfect for small lights or something you may want to have running all the time, it will cut out when the battery gets below a certain amount it seems. However it is not intended to run with a big load.

So far, so good! Tested controller on a small solar pump project using a 10 watt panel and small, automotive sealed battery. The pump will run directly off of the panel, but the charge controller and battery extends the run time. Worked like a champ! The instructions are not written very well, but they make sense, if you read them carefully. For people new to the subject, recommend you search the internet for how solar charge controllers work and what the input and output terminals are for. Especially, the "Load" terminals. If you follow the connection sequence in the instructions, the controller works, as advertised. This product is well made. Some reviewers may have tightened the terminal screws too tightly. I had no problems with connections or operation. It's too early to see how long the unit will last, but I am impressed with the quality for the price!
