Review is based on tests paired with Sony a7 ii. This lens is very sharp right from f1.8. Peak center sharpness is f2.8-4. Corners are very good from f5.6. Not a problem with CA, coma. Distortion is well controlled. But here’s the biggest PROBLEM of this lens: paired with older model like Sony a7 ii it has absolutely disastrous AF even in modest dim light. When conditions are good it focuses fast and reliable but when it comes to low-light AF simply doesn’t work. It struggles to a degree I’ve never experienced with any other lens/system (and I owned lot’s of them). I think it was designed to work with more sophisticated Af of later generations of Sony’s full-frame cameras like a7iii. No good for a7ii. So if you’re willing to use manual focus every time the light isn’t ideal then you’re fine - lens is amazingly sharp with great smooth bokeh if you need it.
