Yes it can. It is meant to be used as a timer for time lapse photography but can be used as a shutter release if you hold the button down

Have a chat with your local Google and he'll show you all kinds of video's or sites committed to explaining how to work the unit. Sometimes getting a good book on your specific camera will explain how an intervalometer can be used.

I'm hoping you incorrectly typed in the time frame your looking for. This (and almost all) intervalometers have a minimum of 1 second, nothing less. If you want the shutter to fire in less than a second use your burst mode. Because of the burst limit (100 in the D90 if conditions are perfect) and buffering in the D9… see more I'm hoping you incorrectly typed in the time frame your looking for. I bought this remote control and used my Nikon D3200 for interval shooting. It works the same way as expected. The user manual is good and got the focus. I noticed in other comments that people said their units did not have a power button. The device I received has one side, so I don't need to remove the battery to turn it off. Maybe I have an updated version. For new shooters who don't want to spend a lot of money, it works very well. I am sure there are more functions for better / more expensive units, but it works for my purposes.

Extremely simple to use and works absolutely perfectly. Nothing else to say! Comes with AAA batteries, simple to plug in. Only issue, I'd say, is the cord, at about 6 inches long it dangles. Longer cord would be nice. Simple use : Set how long until it starts, how many pics, how long for each (can set in camera, just change to 00:00:00 and set in camera instead of bulb) and how often each pic is taken. All of these can be in increments of 1 second.
