It's alright for a general reference but I have trouble getting the exact same reading repeatedly. I can measure the same spot several times and get several close but not exactly the same reading. However for its intended purpose, it works OK. Depending on your fenders, you may have to measure the tire below the body line.

I have lost so many of the cheap non digital tread depth gauges I figured I would pay the extra for a digital one since it bigger and I would care for it more, and so far 5 months later i have yet to lose it, but i have gone through about 3 batteries already. Pretty bulky if they coild have made it a little smaller as most poeple wont be measuring 26mm deep tires, Car tires are about 8mm new, so getting in between teh fenderliner and the tire could be challenge.
