I own several quads but was looking for an inexpensive rig that I could use to teach new drone pilots. This is a great starter drone! The FPV camera works well but it is low resolution. For the price I cannot complain. It flies stable and should be easy enough to handle for newcomers. Once you get it dialed in and trimmed, it will hover without much effort. If you are new I would recommend installing the blade guards, it will save you from damaging some props. I would have given this unit 5 stars but the FPV video was all blurry and out of focus. I was able to dissemble the camera and adjust the focus by turning the lens clockwise which great improved the video quality. It weighs only a little more than 4 ounces so you won't have to register it. I recommend buying a couple extra batteries and if possible upgrade them to 700 mah from the stock 500 mah batteries. This will give you a little more zip and flight time.

Bought this quadracopter for my 11 year old son for Christmas. So far it has exceeded my expectations. The product is packaged very nicely so it looks great as soon as it is opened. There is some assembly required but it was pretty simple, only took a few minutes. The directions included aren't a great translation but they are still clear enough to follow easily. After a very brief instruction I handed the controller to my son, he figured out the controls very quickly. It flies really well and is very easy to control. After flying it several times throughout the day he had gotten quite good at it. The WiFi video feed was my biggest concern, I was pleasantly surprised. The unit paired easily to the IPhone and the App is very simple and straightforward. The video as it flies is quite clear and I did not experience any buffering or skipping. We haven't tried taking a video yet but snapped off a few nice aerial pictures of our house. Like most of the reviews say, you will want to buy extra batteries. I bought 2 more and may want to get a couple more. The flying time is fairly short so it is nice to have batteries ready, they are very quick to change. The time to charge them is lengthy so that is where you want to have extras.

Great drone for money. I have to say I have actually bought three. Bought one for my nephew and lost it in woods after first 30 minutes range and altitude better than I imagined and we got it to high and wind got it. It is very light and will be a battle in the wind. It done so good I ordered him another and bought myself one. Very durable have crashed into building, trees and a very hard ground impact that only bent a prop. Recommend extra batteries I bought the 1100mA that barely fits in battery compartment and hard to get out but I have got up to 20 minutes of flight time. One thing I liked was you can replace any part of drone for a few dollars. Camera does a great job on photos and videos.

Great to learn with. Use propguards till ready. Fly over grass to prevent concrete smacks. The headless mode is great to prevent you from losing your quad if to cant tell front from back at distance. The video has a slight jello quiver but its good for fpv at this price. You can upgrade the camera but its not worth it when you can buy the quad that goes with it. Ive flown it high and far till its just a speck and got lost in which way was forward. I switched to headless mode n bought it back. There is a 6 battery n charger deal out and an upgraded battery. Both are worth it. Theres new 3 bladed props out that make it fly smoother n faster. Good introductory quad. Later buy another set of motors because when one goes out its useless. Dont b afraid to patch this up yourself. I tried this with a offbrand wifi cam velcroed to the bottom and got great results. At 55 bucks you can try stuff...take some risks and not feel like you busted the bank if you crash. It does flips and youtube has a wealth of stuff for whatever you want to try. Avoid getting close to trees. Once your hung up in one may sit there a while. Next i hav to learn how to make those video inside a video flight recordings.

I don't know why the same model in white color costs more, they both do the same, I had one in white but after crashed behind a fence I lost the drone, somebody tooked, so it is very important to fly this in an open space like a big parking lot, inside a big auditorium like the ones in high schools if you can do it would be the best option to practice since the wind is no problem and no way to lose the drone of course don't do it when there is an event in progress, also I recommend to start practicing your first flights with the headless mode on and the speed to the lowest, with no camera attached, then when you get familiar to control the drone you'll be ready to fly even over the beach !, don't forget to buy extra batteries.

Great fun to fly. Good entry level drone. It's very responsive and has plenty of power. The drone itself is great fun to fly and stable in most winds. You have be a little careful in the wind as it's light and gets pushed around a bit. Especially above 10 MPH. If it's windy, I suggest the headless mode as it's easier to control. I can attest to its toughness and durability as I have done my fair share of crash tests. Not intentionally! Initially, I was disappointed in the ability to access the photos and transfer them to my main computer, but I found I didn't have my settings set up properly to allow the photos to be transferred properly. Once I properly set up the settings in my iPhone, everything was fine

So far so good. Santa brought one of these to each of my sons. They were easy to assemble. The instructions are poorly organized and translated from the original Chinese. I had to teach myself to fly them before I could let the boys fly them. They are not so easy to control at first so take them to a park a couple of times for practice before flying them in your driveway. Battery life is about 10 minutes per flight. Charge time for the batteries is about an hour. When the drone strikes the groud it will automatically switch from headless mode to standard. You'll have to re-calibrate the drone using the controller again. This isn't cumbersome but kind of a pain to have to repeat.

wonderful little starter kit for the FPV novice as myself. very smooth, handled like a larger copter and was really fun, until the motor gear bent and was unflyable. went out and I had to older gear and shaft from CHINA. That was three weeks ago and I still do not have the replacement., ordered two packages of everything I could just to make sure. Think I spent more on parts than the quad itself. gonna get a phantom 3 or 3dr Solo in the near future an wanted a little practice with FPV. been playing with toys too long, time to put up or get out!!

This is a decent product. There are things that are not so great, but for the price, it's a lot of fun and works reasonable well. You have to be really careful with plugging the batteries in, the connections are small and not very sturdy, but they work fine if you take your time and are easy with them. It does not work well in the wind, but in still conditions it is a lot of fun. The video works, but it is of the quality that you should expect from a $60 dollar toy. Overall, it is pretty much what you should expect from a quadcopter in this price range.

OK before I start the review please note that my legs, screwdriver and phone clip were taped under the inner packaging, check here before you send it back for missing parts!! As for the drone, I got this to allow me to learn to fly a drone prior to investing in a more expensive drone and for that reason it is great. I have been flying this the last two days, have hit quite a few things and it has not done any damage to the drone, even got some interesting video. Now with a bit of practice I can take off fly around the back yard and land again on the table on the patio with no issues. The drone is very light and can be affected by the wind but is generally very easy to learn to fly. Have some fun and enjoy this quad copter.

This Quad is an excellent beginner's training step towards larger more complex models. The pitch and yaw axis leave a bit to be desired for more experienced flyers but once again for a beginner (and for the price) you will find it hard to find anything to compare it to. The quad is also very durable for its size and price range. I've let my 7yr old fly it around and he gave it a few fairly heavy bumps and it came through with hardly a scratch. They send several spare parts with the package but honestly.....I haven't had to repair/replace much...just a drive gear which kept slipping...and I fixed that with CA. The only real complaint I have is in the radio range, get it to high/far from you and it seems to want to drop out of the sky but levels off once back in range.Overall this would be an excellent first quad and I'd recommend it to anyone...as a matter of fact I already have.

This is a great drone for its price. The reasons that I gave it 4 stars are mainly with the experience. When I originally got my first drone (the white SYMA X5SW for Christmas), I was flying it and I didn't know how high I was and where I was in the fly, so I crashed it into a tree and it was stuck there until the snow storm hit the east coast. Another reason why I gave it 4 stars is because one of the motors in my drone randomly stopped working. Since I have two drones, and I am having the same problem with my other drone, I will try to swap motors and take a working motor and replace the non working motor. It's still a great drone and I can highly recommend this product.

This is my first quad. I purposely bought it for its lack of automated functions and price. So far it has been dependable and flies predictably. It gets about 5 minutes of flight per battery and is fulfilling its role as a learning platform well. I wanted to learn stick and rudder flying before buying a more sophisticated quad so this was my choice. I have brushed a tree limb and had it drop from about 7 feet onto grass with no damage. It's cons are a very short range, once the battery warning is flashing you need to land immediately, and once it gets out of range it plumits straight down. For the cost, it is a good toy and I would likely replace it if I destroy it.

After returning a DOA Syma X5SW-V3 a couple of weeks ago to , I jumped at the price drop on this Syma X5SW distributed by Cool Stuff Place (the X5SW-V3 was from another distributor). This second generation style X5 has nicer plastic and body shape than the X5C that I also have. I hooked up the landing gear, propellor guards and FPV camera - the screws for the propellor guards did not work with the provided screwdriver; I used my own slightly larger Philips screwdriver. The enclosed screwdriver worked fine with the propellor guard and controller battery compartment screws. Connected to the Syma app which is mainly for photographing, video recording and FPV viewing. The quadcopter's WiFi signal showed on my iPhone after about 45 seconds - so be patient. Flew it indoors (this body style is reported widely to have issues outdoors). Throttle and rudder control worked ok and was responsive. There was a slight sideways and forward drift which would not trim out, but more annoying was the drifting yaw which I could not trim out fully. I got about 5 minutes of flight time from a full battery - with FPV on.

Got this as a gift for my son. We love taking it out and learning how not to crash. It's lightweight and can take a beating. It comes with a small battery that will only give you about 10 min of flight time when using the camera. If you disconnect that it doubles. If you buy a bigger battery you can increase it further. With a 600mah battery I got from here I can get about 15-20 min flight time without the camera. Picking up some spare parts especially rotors is also a good idea. The LED's on the bottom indicate the power status and begin to flash if the power is getting low giving you time to bring it down slowly and safely. This model is not really designed for beginners simply because it take time to learn how to properly control and fly these. We made it work and had loads of fun doing it but in retrospect we would've been better off starting with something smaller to get the hang of it first.

I was expecting a FPV version of the X5C, but this is a scaled down version of the X8C, and it's great. First, this is a toy, so it needs to be approached as a toy, not a real FPV system. Secondly, if you're running the camera, your range on the quadcopter will only be about 30m. There's a ton of interference created by the camera in 2.4g and it dramatically reduces control range (which is fine!)--the FPV is a little tricky to get everything running, but it works reasonably well, and it's fun to give your phone or tablet to someone as you fly. The delay in image transmission makes it really pretty impossible to pilot the aircraft via FPV, but it's still a fun toy and the streaming video signal is quite strong for such a little transmitter. If you take the camera off, range increases to more than you need, and this is a fun, stable, responsive little quad. It does seem to be a little more prone to the standing vortex effect during rapid decent than other quads. All in all, this is a great toy and trainer for anyone interested in flying drones. I'm going to buy another one.

My son wanted a drone...well we got his one, I wanted to get one a little larger that felt a little more substantial (and still do) but my wife said NO! Out of choice I Would get one of the parrots but soo much money....Anyway, we purchased this and it's a ton of fun. I'm still getting used to flying this but it is really stable in flight, relatively easy to fly. Video quality is ok too. I'm not going to win any academy awards with my cinematography but the image is clear and it serves the purpose for what we wanted it for. One of the dislikes is the flight time. It only lasts a few minutes on a single charge and then you have to wait until the battery recharges. So in theory this should be a negative but to be fair this is an issue with all drones. The batteries need to be small and light to make it a viable drone. So the draw back is the short flight time, since "small battery=light=short flight time". So the reason I didn't ding it a star or two was the availability of the batteries. I purchased a set of four batteries with charger for less than a pack of "bunny" AA batteries. This now gives us some considerable flight time without having to pay $$$ for it. Replacement parts are readily available, and cheap. There are sites devoted into customizing these little drones with better batteries, cameras, motors and how to increase operating range etc. So when you add all this up it's hard to not give this 5 stars for the money. Get out there and have some fun!

great beginner quad, perfect size! I think this is a better beginner than the hubsan and is MUCH more sturdy and holds up to crashes well. I've had two hubsans and they both broke on the first light crash. this one has withstood many light crashes without a scratch. the prop guards have been worth their weight in gold. it flies well and hovers well. i will say if you use this outside there better be very minimal to no wind as it's too light to handle more than 1mph wind or so. the fpv feature is nice and works pretty good as a novelty but i still think flying the old school way is easier and better. the camera is not that great but serves it's purpose well enough. It is NOT HD and since it's wifi, it cuts our periodically. battery lasts about 5 minutes or so... do yourself a favor and buy some extra batteries. the instructions are not that helpful... as a matter of fact they are quite hilarious and obviously written by a chinese national as the grammar and some of the terms are off base. overall, this thing is great and i recommend for beginners. .

This is a great beginner copter. It is very simple to fly and operate. The video on the quad is adequate but you won't be taking wedding photos with it. The linking to the phone is simple and quick. The application which they provide is also user friendly. I liked the weight of the quad. It is light enough to fly inside and also strong enough to fly outside. The parts, motors, guards, batteries etc, are very easy user replace. This copter is EXCELLENT for those younger kiddos who want to fly with Daddy (or Mommy) but aren't as skilled as they need to be for the bigger ones. If they crash (and they will) and something breaks, parts are readily available all over the internet and are very inexpensive.

Still having trouble getting the camera to connect to the iPhone but other than that we have been very pleased with this item as a beginners drone for our son. It has met all expectations and I assume maybe it is a user error for getting the camera to cooperate. The battery life was something I did not expect to drain as quickly but again we are new to the whole drone thing. The quality of this drone is great, we love flying it and practicing with it and are very happy we bought it. We would highly recommend this to any beginner to drone flying. Just don't fly it on a windy day because it is so light that it will become difficult to fly in the wind. I am sure that is the case with most drones as they have to be light enough to support the battery, propellers and everything else on this machine. Handle with great care and be gentle with it and you will have tons of fun. The only suggestion I have is to buy additional batteries so you can spend more than 5 and a half minutes at the park flying it. The batteries are easy to charge and easy to swap out in their compartment.
