Your power goes to the center connections #3 & #4 your sensor goes to #5 & #6 the load (whatever your using it for) goes to #1 & #2. There is no polarity so it don't matter which way you hook it up. This uses a NTC thermistor (measuring resistance) and is not compatible with a thermocouple (measuring voltage).

Temperature range for activating controller. Default is 2 deg F and it can be set between 1 and 30 deg F. It is meant to prevent over-cycling.

I'm using mine to control a 125 watt heat lamp so I would say yes, a 20watt heat strip would be well within the rated specs.

You are probably looking for a analog temperature controller for your system. This controler does on /off only and has a control band of a couple degrees. Not suitable for your application

The probe is potted, but I don't think it looks like a probe designed for submersion. It is however a standard 10kohm NTC element which can be easily replaced with a waterproof version. I added extension wires to my probes to increase the measuring distance beyond 1 meter. There is also a calibration adjustment if necessary.

I bought this for a chest freezer to fridge modification which did an amazing job of dropping the power consumption for a solar application. I was impressed enough that I actually bought another as a backup. The instructions suck and actually say not to install "in the place where is dripping water, or the elderly, children could be touched" which can be interpreted many ways. The laughing from reading the instructions however inspired me to do some Google searching and the info I needed came up fairly quickly. Programming took a little effort but was easy after, remembers the setting if power is lost and the fact that it displays in F in a huge plus to me!

I bought this to be the temperature controller for a sous vide setup. It works and has some nice controls, but they're a little hard to understand. The instructions are pretty hard to understand as they're obviously translated from Chinese, but it's not a deal breaker. If you'd like to make your own sous vide device, check out instructables and search for "Sous vide cooker for less than $40." If you view those instructions, they use a temperature controller that is ONLY for heating. This unit works for both heating and cooling but it's easy to change in the settings. This is the 2nd sous vide temp controller I've built and this is easier than the Ellitech one, and it's cheaper. I'm building a 3rd one to hook up to an old commercial fridge to keep it from getting too cold. It should work just fine for that after I get the next one and it will be wired up the same way. The ellitech one I had to figure out how to wire. Not impossible, but this unit is wired exactly the same as the instructables instructions.

So far so good! Received it in a decent time. Just came in its own little box with a little bubble wrap. The unit its self works well. The therm-couple respond quickly to any temp change. I am using this on a hot tub. The thermostat in our California Cooperage heater is getting really bad. The system is the original round cedar hot tubs from CC and the analogue thermostat kicks in around 96 degrees and cuts out at 110 degrees! We want 104... So I took a dremel tool to a small area of the brass heat exchanger and used 2 part pool epoxy to hold the therm-couple to the polished brass. Its awesome. The temp response is instant. Add a tad bit of cold water and the temp drops quick, shut the cold water off and the temp quickly rises back to the pump return water temp. I like the fact that you can set the temp swing. I have it set a 2 degrees and calibrated the temp reading to say 104 when the tub 104.5. So 102.5 ish the heater cuts in and 104.5 ish the heater cuts out. Very comfortable temp range and keep the heater from short cycling. To control the heater I am using the relay to switch the static gas valve trigger wire.

It can act as a heater controller or cooler controller but not at the same time. There is only one relay connection, so you can either hook up a cooler or a heater and program it to switch on the heater or cooler by temp. Other products have two relays so you can switch on a cooler if the temp gets too high or a heater if it gets too low. 2. Programming is too tedious. It requires a separate button press for each 0.1 degree of change in the temperature setting. The other one would quickly scroll up or down the temp settings as long as the programming button was held down. 3. Instructions are incomprehensible Chineseglish. Thank goodness there were some drawings. Even the marlins for the connections on the unit were in Chinese characters. Other than that, it does work, and since I mostly need to switch a refrigerator on and off, the single function will work for me.
