Everything I need to start a fire comes in the tin box. There is a hand forged high carbon steel striker, collapsible stainless steel bellows, an English flint stone, char cloth and jute tinder. The steel creates sparks easily with the flint provided that can easily be caught on the char cloth and then placed in the jute twine and blown or waved into flame. It is a great quality steel with a smooth surface that is very nice in the hand. This is a great quality bit of kit, incredibly easy to use and excellent value. Well worth the buy.

Excellent quality for the price. The fire piston is obviously the star of this kit and is very nice quality, a tad smaller than I thought it would be but that's a good thing so its easily packable. It took a few tries to get it to work but I found if you just lightly roll the end o-rings in the provided grease that seems to make it work pretty well. I haven't tried stuffing the end full but I think you shouldn't stuff it all the way with the provided char cloth. I am not sure of this, however. Also wondering if it would work with sawdust or wood tinder but I haven't tried this either but I imagine it would. There's plenty of room left in the tin for additional items like a pocket bellow, a lighter, fatwood, a ferro rod+striker and a tiny knife. All-in-all this is an excellent purchase and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a fire piston. This kit now has a permanent spot in my camping/bugout bag and I might buy another later on to put in my truck for extra fire making equipment. The only con I can think of is that it didn't come with instructions. This wasn't an issue for me as I have already seen demonstrations online of this tool. Just grease up the o-rings a little bit and give it a good slap and you should have a coal going. It might take a few tries but if you're persistent then it shouldn't be a problem. Another possible thing is that you may want to add some kind of grip tape to the piston where you pull it out, it's slightly slick and I imagine if your hands were sweaty or wet it might become difficult to take the rod out but as of now it's not an issue for me.
