Now that Apple has removed all the useful ports from their new laptops, getting a dongle such as this is required equipment. As the IT Manager, I buy one of these for each new MacBook my organization buys, because without them we lose the ability to use all the thumb drives, external monitors, projectors, digital cameras, wireless mice, etc that we've been supplying our staff with for years. Yes, Apple makes wireless alternatives to most (not all) of these, but A) all that old stuff still works and I cannot justify replacing it and B) the new wireless stuff sometimes DOESN'T work and everyone needs a sure-fire hardwired backup method.

need more usb-A ports? Check! need a SD card reader? Check! need a hdmi port? Check! love the fast usb-3 ports, never used the card reader, my laptop has it, but it does have micro sd as well, the Hdmi port is the big thing i use, my laptop has one, but i am spoiled and needed 2 monitors, so this does that, my only thing that i can't take a star off for, i wish it had 2 hdmi ports, sure it would raise the price, but then i would be able to plug in two monitors with the one usb-c port, if i went just a little further, it would be nice to have this exact hub but with a type a port, that might be hard to keep the good reviews up because a lot of older computer will not support video through type a ports so i get it, that being SAID! this sucker will let you use a usb-a to hdmi adaptor to run two monitors so its still works! the usb port monitor is just a little slower but i just don't game on it and i am fine.

This seemed like it would be a good value, but within a couple months the USB C plug didn't make reliable connections with my MacBook Pro, and my video connection would be lost intermittently when using this for a second screen. For a while if I had the adapter sitting just right it would maintain the connection, but now I can't even manage that, so for both data transfer and video connections it is utterly unreliable. When it was working it would also get pretty warm at times. I didn't even try to use multiple ports on this at once. If you want to run an Apple SuperDrive through this that won't work either, as it cannot supply adequate power to the drive.
