the best way to know is if you have the 30 pin charger (like for a I phone 5 or older the fatter charger) it works, if the charger is the thin one like a I phone 6 or later it won't work. You have to push and hold the pairing button on your headphones and it should pair. There is a small hole in dongle on bottom make sure that is pushed.

Yes, I use it with a fifth generation iPod classic and it works very well, it does run off of the power from your iPod so you will have decreased battery life from your iPod, other than that works great ! Most bluetooth speakers come with an adapter that allows iPod to attach. Then when you use the bluetooth, you have to allow the auxilary function to pick up the iPod signal. I use my iPod with my Bose bluetooth and it works beautifully.

from what I can understand about this unit and other units like it is that you can only control the volume on the headset that you have connected to it not on the iPod Nano itself hopefully this will be helpful to you I have something similar to it

The adapter draws it's power from the iPod so it has no charging issues. I've run my iPod several hours bet's between charges but that battery has been replaced by Apple before.

It works perfectly! Tip: Do not turn on any Bluetooth device other than a Bluetooth speaker or headset while pairing. First connect this device to your iPod, then turn on your iPod by selecting a song or video and start playing normally. Wait for the Tiny Blue light to start blinking. Then turn on the Bluetooth speaker or the Bluetooth headset. It takes between one and several seconds to find and pair with a Bluetooth speaker or Bluetooth headset. Remember that it takes longer to pair a device for the first time. After pairing, you can turn on other Bluetooth devices, such as mobile phones, tablets, TVs, PCs, etc. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Keep your iPod in a secure pocket or bag while exercising. No more cable interference during the event.
