this is a really very good looking BB-8 radio control toy. it will roll on most flat surfaces but seems to be more stable on carpet and flat textured floors. on hard flat smooth floors, it could be really wobbly with its head rocking back and forth a lot. but wherever you go, you can try spinning (turning) its head to try to stabilize it more quickly without waiting for it stop wibble wobbling back and forth.it doesn't do so well with slight bumps unless if you push it along. we have some artificial grass and it seems to roll okay there. real grass and dirt may be different and probably bad if uneven and bumpy??? rocky gravel surfaces are a definite no go. you'll have to find out for yourself if you want to really take this BB-8 out to roll around in the outside world. but you may want to keep this as a inside droid. oh my suggestion is to not even go on sand or loose dirt because there are a lot of little holes in the main BB-8 global body for the lights (but the body is translucent and you'll see the lights anyways) and the holes seem to be a design leftover from the hasbro version for receiving infrared signals. this planet boy instead uses 2.4Ghz radio remote control and probably doesn't really need all those holes. anyways, those holes may introduce dirt and sand going into your BB-8 if you go roll around in the dirt or at the beach or in a playground sandbox etc in the outside world. so, you may want to keep this as an inside droid if you care about preserving this droid toy as a collectible.perhaps the only most annoying issue with this BB-8 is with the sounds which are mostly unofficial children's music tunes plus a little boy talking nonsense trying to get your attention (apparently this is the "planet boy" named on the box). if you are a diehard star wars fan, you will love this droid, BUT you will hate the disappointing annoying kiddie sound effects. the only star wars sounds are a little bit of the star wars theme music when you turn it on and only a few short droid beeps when BB-8 automatically goes to sleep after a few minutes of not being used and played with. so, the sounds are mostly really crappy kiddie noise. keep in mind that this is the planet boy version of an otherwise really great looking BB-8 toy. it looks just like the star wars droid, but it's planet boy with the awful kiddie sound effects noise. if you are brave enough, just cut the speaker wire to quiet this BB-8 Planet Boy Droid. if you want to see a how-to, just go to and scroll down through my @iwantgizm0s instagram feed for my pictures taking this toy droid apart. warning: you'll void the warranty. but if you are like me, if anything otherwise goes wrong, you are not going to want to send this back to tomtop in china after waiting for it to be delivered after like two weeks or so. you'll most likely will be happy with this silly little fun droid to play with as it is (and probably happier if you cut the speaker wire).anyways, this was a really great purchase for me at $17.99 but just know what you are getting if you buy this BB-8.two tips: (1) you will have to find where the magnet is when you put on BB-8's head; and (2) when BB-8 automatically goes to sleep after you stop playing with it, when you then want play again, then rock BB-8 back and forth to wake it up and you'll see it's lights turn on. enjoy!
