This unit requires 8 AA batteries. You could either use 8 AA batteries, or get a 12v rechargable pack. I would advise against plugging the device into a 12v power source while having batteries inside the device. I use cheap alkaline batteries, but I have contemplated getting a 12v rechargable pack.

Yes as long as the reciever can be attached to the RC sub. You can basically use this for anything but it's meant for planes, helicopters, and quadcopters
