I received my Tachometer but it did not come with a battery I had to go but a battery for $4.69. Follow the directions and programmed the unit for my lawnmower and it worked great! Keeps track of hours and shows the RPMs. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because it didn't have a battery!

The only thing holding these back from a 5 star review is when it's cold the unit seems to be a little temperamental. Haven't had an issue with it working the way it is supposed to when needed. But after hauling in the back of my truck from the races it doesn't seem to work till it warms up again.

Small package but does a decent job. I used this unit to verify another unit I had installed on a 2-stroke hovercraft engine. The instructions for installation are easy enough, just wrap a single wire around a spark plug wire and tape it down with electrical tape. On the original installation I had to add about 3' of additional wire to reach the engine to be able to mount the tachometer up front for display. Not sure, but perhaps the additional length of wire caused a difference in readings as the installed tach read about 100 RPM less than this one. Bother were in the ballpark, so I'd say performance is acceptable. The display is a little hard to read in bright sunlight, but it can still be read. A big upside to this design would be a replaceable battery. Some reviewers said they could get the back of the case open to replace the battery. That may be possible, but on this one it is sealed up pretty tight. Still, when the time comes I may still try that. Remember to program it for your engine, for a 2-cylinder 2-cycle engine I had to select the setting for two sparks per engine revolution. Once set it seemed to work just as expected. Accuracy +/- 100 RPM or so, but generally speaking good enough.

This little engine tachometer and hour meter works great. Like so many others have said however, the only con I can see is the lack of instructions. Due to the fact that my bulldog UTV does not have either a tachometer or hour meter, I found it necessary to purchase this to keep track of the number of hours that the engine was running for maintenance purposes and oil changes. Again as others have mentioned in their reviews the pulse sensing wire was not long enough. I did a simple in-line splice of an 20 gauge wire to add the necessary three additional feet I needed to get from the dash back to the engine compartment. I did as others had suggested and wrapped around one of the spark plug wires approximately 5 full turns of wire. The five turns in conjunction with the splice appeared to be more than enough to provide the pulsing information to the meter as everything is working exactly as it should. I am however puzzled at the two switches labeled S1 and S2. I have tried a number of times depressing either one of the other or both of the switches to see if there was a way to correctly input the fact that this engine is a four stroke twin cylinder. I tried momentarily depressing S1, nothing happened. Then depressing S2 momentarily nothing happened. Then pressing and holding S1 for several seconds then releasing with nothing happened. Then depressing S2 for several seconds and releasing with nothing happening. Then depressing and holding S1 while momentarily depressing S2 nothing happened then pressing and holding S1 well pressing and holding S2 for several seconds nothing happened then pressing and holding S2 for several seconds while momentarily pressing S1 nothing happened and finally pressing and holding S2 and pressing and holding S1 again nothing happened. Anyone else been able to figure out what if anything the switches do? I have also read that some complain about the inability to change the battery internal to the meter. On mine the back can be pried off and the battery replaced. However as cheap as these are I would simply throw the old one away and install a new one. Other than that this thing works great!
