I purchased it to replace the plastic nut on a 5 string bass guitar I'm upgrading. Should work on any fretted 5 string electric bass. As far as being fretted or fretless, you'll obviously have to reshape in some capacity ANY nut to fit your guitar but more particularly for a fretless bass! This may sit too high for a fretless but I'm sure you can shave it down. For mine it actually will automatically lower my action (something I'm going for anyway) because the plastic crap it came with is set too high. see less
