You have to attach the mic to the bell so as NOT to cause any vibration then it should be fine. I use mine on my Native Style Flute and it works great.

Never tried it that way. I have it on my music stand to pick up the music I'm playing right next to it. I'd guess if you wanted to pick up sounds beyond a foot away, or so, it wouldn't be much good.
