This violin is of much higher quality than I ever imagined. It is not, of course, even a good violin by professional standards, but it is a very solid beginner's instrument. I bought it for myself, though I am not a violinist, but I have been playing guitar, bass, and keys for more than six years, and I have played violins before. My ex-girlfriend lent me her first violin when we were dating, and it was really, really horrible. This one is pretty close to her current violin, which was a pretty decent student model. I did a lot of research before buying this one, and I'm really glad I did. It is rated highly by violin teachers and other violinists, but very lowly by people who have no idea what they are talking about.

I purchased the violin for $46 and it has everything to get a beginner started. Violin, bow, rosin, bridge, extra set of strings, shoulder rest and a sturdy case. The rosin needs to be scuffed up before use and as for tuning, I was patient and used the fine tuners as much as I could with no broken strings. During the first week, I had to re-tune several times but after that the violin stayed in tune. Pushing the pegs in seemed to help hold them in place. I am going to replace the strings with D'Addario Prelude Violin String Set (recommendation from Beth at violinlab.com, who is also a very good online instructor). This is a good set up for anyone (regardless of age)who is just getting started.

The violin arrived in good shape. It has a good quality case (in fact a bit more elaborate than my son cares to deal with so we generally leave the violin on top of the case rather than in it). Just a couple minutes to tune the violin and rosin the bow and it was ready for a test run. Given the very small size, I was amazed at the sound quality. It's certainly a smaller sound to match its smaller size (and frankly I struggle to make my adult sized fingers hit just a single string), but overall sounds and feels like a good quality instrument.

I'm not a professional and this is my 2nd time owning a violin. The first was a few years ago in the third grade... First off, this violin, as many have mentioned is pretty freaking amazing for the price. Especially if you are starting out and want something that sounds good without drying out your pocket. The violin itself was a bit difficult for me to operate at first because, well.. Beginner. But after a few videos I got it tuned and no, im not professional as I mentioned so I can't say I know a good Rosen when I see one. It is useable.

I was searching for a violin for my 5 year old grand daughter's birthday. Her older brother started taking lessons in school and she wanted to play along with him. I read the reviews for this product and was a bit skeptical with the possibility of having to set it up. I'm not a violin player. My skill level is basically the same as the grandson I'm helping with lessons, maybe a bit more. I had a son take lessons many years ago so this wasn't my first go around with them.I have to say, I wasn't disappointed in this violin. It was just as described.

I'm new to violin and spent a lot of time searching for the best package for me. I bought this violin and was thoroughly impressed with it! After reading all reviews, good and bad, I decided to take the chance and get this one. It came with everything mentioned- extra strings, rosin, case the works. The violin was fully intact when I got it and out of tune. Not knowing how to properly tune a violin, i turned to the internet. After discovering you can EASILY SNAP THE STRINGS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, I carefully followed instructions on tuning properly and have avoided snapping any strings. Not to mention the pegs don't slip if you use those properly too.

I am a Music Teacher and started 30 children on violin this past year. Many of them purchased this instrument, 1/8 or 1/10 size. For what we needed it for it is AWESOME! So inexpensive the parents did not blink an eye to purchase it. I had a problem with 2 of the bows..... the hair pulled away from the frog. I replaced them via amazon for under $7 each. Tough keeping them in tune at first.... I bought 'peg drops' for under $10.... used it on all 30 violins..... problem virtually solved! Not one student needed the shoulder rest....... little tiny necks just don't really need it and they're uncomfortable anyway. Rosin fine. Sound GREAT for the money. Thank you Mendini for this price point: no doubt you're enabling many young kids 'try it out' with minimal investment from parents.

As a violin teacher, I like to have these on hand for cheap entry level instruments, or rent for $10/month. That way a student doesn't have to get into a year contract at a local music store if they aren't sure if they want to stick with it or not.A great way to get started on the violin for VERY little money.
