My nephew has been taking piano lessons for a few years, and being the cool uncle I wanted to both support his education and get something wacky and fun. He's hard to buy for anyway. He opened the gift with an odd look while taking it out, and but his face lit up as soon as he made the first note. He immediately started playing songs and continued with his brother for the next hour. It's at the perfect balance of cheap but effective. And it comes with a carrying case so he can bring it on the ski trip and annoy my sister the whole time.

I love this thing. I bought it on a whim and I do not regret it. If you like easy to learn instruments that can take a beating (i.e. pets, children, user error, etc), then this is it. I could and have played it for hours on end. The straps to the flimsy case are meh, but this thing is an absolute unit, so it's going to be just fine. One word of caution, however. Do not play this thing laying down if you've been practicing for a while. When you play, either with the mouthpiece or hose, saliva naturally ends up in the instrument. So when you lie down...cold spit will come right back into your mouth. But I've found that if you "dry" it out upside down and whirl the hose around like a helicopter, the spit comes right out and is ready to be stored. Would buy again if this thing ever broke. Would buy for just about anyone who's interested in playing an easy instrument that isn't the dollar store recorder.
