Got 2 of these and already used them on builds. The plastic backing is part of the whole thing to keep it from digging into the body so much. That's why it's a bit thinner. But with the plastic is fine and solid. If you don't want the plastic backing you need to get the vintage kind that is a bit thicker and heavier. The screws were fine for me - heavy and solid. If they are too hard to screw in you either need to bore out your holes a bit or use some wax or soap on the screws for lubricant. Also - turn slowly a bit at a time and never used a power drill - do it by hand so you can control it and not strip out the heads.

I really like this neck for the price. It will need some basic final sanding and fitting work before you put the finish on but its not a big deal. Time will tell if it works great but so far it seems ok. I got it to try some finishing ideas out on. It is NOT of the quality of Warmoth or Fender but for a project guitar I really like it.

This is a good neck, great price. Fast delivery. Just a bit of sanding. Nut slot is tight, and it chipped a bit during nut installation. Filed fret ends. Had to ream the tuner holes. All of these are to be expected on any new neck. Hard to beat for under $40. I would buy again next time I need a neck.
