Q

I bought a better thermo coupler for this unit. Its a Type K. When I hooked it up it showed a HHH on the screen. Is the type K the wrong type

A
  • This uses a NTC thermistor (measuring resistance) and is not compatible with a thermocouple (measuring voltage).

Can I hook this up to a fridge to maintain a 64 degree F while maintaining the freezer at its normal temps?

  • It would depend on your refrigerator. Most refrigerators are cooled from a single compressor and coil system. Some have one compressor and two coils. You would need at least this dual-coil setup. Most refrigerators are cooled from a single compressor and coil system. Some have one compressor and two coils. You would need at least this dual-coil setup. The wiring hack would be very tricky and discouraged for a DIYer. These kinds of fridges are already expensive and messing with the wiring would void the warranty and possibly destroy the machine. Probably easier and safer to get a dedicated fridge and freezer for each purpose you need. They come in all shapes and sizes, so space really wouldn't be a problem. see less

Q

In programing the 1st is HC. heat/cool but what do the other programs CA, PV, HA, LA & CP stand for?

A
  • Temperature range for activating controller. Default is 2 deg F and it can be set between 1 and 30 deg F. It is meant to prevent over-cycling.

Q

Can the sensor be immersed in water?

A
  • The sensor appears potted quite well. For severe duty it may be placed in a well.

Q

info says 10 amps is that the maximum you can power with it? ... could i use it to power heat tape that is 20w

A
  • I'm using mine to control a 125 watt heat lamp so I would say yes, a 20watt heat strip would be well within the rated specs.

Q

I want to use this to control my herms system. But i use 24v dc gas valves. will this work?

A
  • You are probably looking for a analog temperature controller for your system. This controler does on /off only and has a control band of a couple degrees. Not suitable for your application

Q

is the probe water proof so it can be used in a aquarium

A
  • The probe is potted, but I don't think it looks like a probe designed for submersion. It is however a standard 10kohm NTC element which can be easily replaced with a waterproof version. I added extension wires to my probes to increase the measuring distance beyond 1 meter. There is also a calibration adjustment if necessary.

I have two of these. The temperature on the second is roughly 50 degrees off. It’s adjusted completely and I have it set to 0 to keep the fridge around 38 degrees. The first unit is only 4 degrees off

Lasted 2 years of very sporadic use. Basically I would use it for about a month every winter. Now the unit does not turn off when it reaches the set point. I guess for $15 I got my money's worth.
