Yes. It will measure in either direction.
By Dale E. Shomette on April 21, 2018
It runs off a small watch battery. Which was not included.
By Dennis McCauley on March 28, 2018
It is continuously reading and updating, however, it shuts itself off if there is no human interaction. Also, the battery life didn't even make it for a month. I have since spent a bit more money and purchased one that is a bit more high tech and has many more options.

Ground zero. You will be testing the wind speed where you stand holding the meter.

I purchased two of these to use on a recent Geography fieldtrip I was running for my school, to replace some flimsy hand-held manual anemometers we've been using for years. It was a very good decision - this is very simple to set up, giving you a range of different wind velocity measurements to choose from. It records very light breezes you can barely feel, right up to hurricane-force gales. A nice bonus is a 12-segment black bar representing the Beaufort scale which builds up as the wind velocity increases. It also records the air temperature accurately. Probably the best thing about it is the price though, which is ridiculously cheap for such a useful piece of equipment. Well worth a look.

Took some figuring out to get it to work, especially having to use two buttons to operate (it may just have been me being thick though!). Pocket sized and quite neat design. Works well and shows all the data I need (Average and max functions are useful). Perfect and very cheap for what I needed with all the features most folk will ever need. Can't vouch for accuracy as I haven't tested it against a calibrated meter, but for indication purposes, this seems fine. The light up display is particulary useful

I bought this stuff on ebay but it's exactly the same here. I paid £0.20 difference. This anemometer is perfect for just what I needed. I needed something very simple to measure air flow from my portable air conditioner because I want to improve the air con air filtering ability when summer comes by doubling the air filters. I fear that doubling the filters to clean the air would also affect the flow of air thru the filters making the fans to over work and therefore over heating which could lead to a breakdown. So far I've tested it with my table fan and it gave accurate readings of various bottons. Temperature reading is perfect which shows the same reading to match with my hygrometer. I'm impressed and couldn't ask for more. Nice lcd backlit panel. It looks well made too. But it's cheap. Mine was sourced from UK so it arrived earlier. NOTE: Mine didn't come with battery and I wasn't told. I tried switching it on but no power so I managed to undo the battery cover with a tiny Philip screw driver only to notice that it was emptied (a tiny kitchen knife could undo screw). The battery speciation written in the battery slot is deceiving but manual gives good spec. I had some large flat alkaline batteries I got from poundland around and put one in and it worked. So be sure yours come with battery or you can get it from any 99 pence shops. I would recommend it if you are looking for something not extremely sophisticated. Thanks God bless you.

Used for outdoor events to monitor wind speeds for safety - accurate enough for that purpose and well worth having to hand. Already been practical on site, and the options of different readings - mph, knots etc - suit the various wind reports checked ahead of event too so can easily be read against forecasts. Temp guage appears a little off but does the job nicely and great value for money. Tip - make sure the screw for the battery casing is well seated or the casing 'lifts' and the battery connection is lost, so the power goes off. Easy to fix and not agaiinst the kit considering the price. Highly recommend!

I knew what I wanted and it had everything I needed. I looked at the more expensive ones and they didn't seem offer that much more. The battery came with the packet, it came separately so you have to keep a look out for it in a plastic package. I will be using it to monitor the wind on a local Twitter weather station site (geeky or what), and I will be using it when I monitor windy weather conditions and I survey the health of trees, so if it is windy, it could be dangerous. Also there is an outdoor table tennis table near us in London and the ball is always flying all over the place, so I thought if it was low wind, then I would know it would be ok to play and not waste our time walking over there. I am looking forward to using it when it gets really gusty and stuff comes off houses etc, that could be interesting. I could also lend it to my brother who goes on hikes. I am going to get a print out of the Beaufort scale so that I can see what kind of wind it will be. Great product and easy to use and value for money and it came quickly Second One I ordered a second one as I lost my first unfortunately and delivery was appalling. After 2 months I still have not received it and yet it is still within the delivery time. In the UK we have got this hurricane coming up and so it is really annoying, will just have to use the regular Beaufont scale instead, which is ok, but not super accurate

As long as you don't expect rugged commercial quality and scientific precision when measuring wind speeds this little gadget is excellent value at this price. When tried in varying conditions we found that to get a good approximation of actual wind speeds you need to ensure that the device is held square on to face the prevailing wind. Indicated speeds seemed consistent with what the local weather reports said the wind speeds had been so we believe it to be fairly accurate and certainly good enough for our needs. The build quality is only average when compared to other hand held devices we use but is good enough for the intended purpose. The display is clear and easy to read although we found changing the various settings a little hit and miss. All in all, if you want a cheap way of measuring wind speeds then this unit seems to do the trick and at a surprisingly low price.

good for the price. Still working out some functions as I want to freeze the display reading while holding it up. Reading shows Beaufort and various other options. The display can be read easily when you are looking at it but not from a distance e.g. when holding it up. No complaints though as good value for the price

An amazingly neat product that works. It says battery included but it wasn't, though I had a CR2032 to hand. For £10 this unit is difficult to fault. Wind speed can be displayed in 5 units and also shows the Beaufort scale. It also shows temperature and shows wind chill. Build quality is acceptable.
