Can you use it to sharpen a mach 3 Razer? I've heard of using leather and even an old pair of jeans.

  • That would be very hard .I would not try it and then shave with the blade .

Which side is which grit? And should oil or water be used as a lubricant?

  • The red side is 3000. The white side is much smoother. It does a good job polishing my tools.

Which side is which grit? And should water or oil be used as a lubricant?

  • Neither side is labeled but you can feel a distinct difference between the grits. Red is the 10k I believe. The stone comes oiled. I've been using it fairly regularly for a few months and have not had a need to lubricate it yet.

i use acetone to remove tape residue before sharpening, but stone still turns black quickly. any ideas?

  • Try letting the stone soak in some water with a little dish soap for a few minutes. Rinse the stone off and dip it in the soapy water occasionally while sharpening.
