This is a nice electronic assembly project. I have done led Christmas trees in the past as part of a classroom project in the week leading up to Christmas break. The students enjoy putting them together and are excited when the finished project lights up. I bought this one to see how well it works before purchasing for the classroom. Mr. Fixit's review is a perfect description. After putting this together, I was disappointed with the switch. It almost twists off the board when you turn it on and off. I tried adding a little glue and ruined the switch. Changing to a toggle switch sounds like an excellent way of solving the problem. I wish I had read the advice of trying hot glue as that might have worked. I hope the manufacturer will change this part of the design as the rest of the assembly is excellent.

Overall this is a great little DYI project!! With the kit I did not receive the acrylic washers, but I improvised with slightly oversized nuts between the top acrylic and the circuit board. There is some difficulty in putting this kit together, but for the most part is it pretty much straight forward. When you point your camera at the page, the QR code allows you to go to a website with pictures to help too. Between the instruction sheet and the website pictures you can assemble without too many problems. I found the switch is a little weak, the prongs on it could be a little thicker, I am trying to be as careful as I can when I turn it on and off. OVERALL, this is a GREAT project for anyone that is good with a solder iron. Thanks!!!

I would not hesitate to give five stars, but the small power switch did not last a day. Don't let it stop you from buying this kit, it's easy to weld, it looks great, it sounds great, if the switch is broken, you can fix it! The board has a good quality welding mask, including some replacement LEDs, and the socket microcontroller minimizes component counting and eliminates the need for SMD components. I obtained this 10-year kit, with no welding experience, built everything with a minimum of orientation (good photos in the assembly instructions). LEDs are bright flash entertainment patterns with excellent sound (bells, bells, trumpet, music box effects) and all popular Christmas songs. The power switch is mounted by its terminals, which are prone to distortion and bending and eventually break. Perhaps some hot melt adhesives are safer? We drill another hole in the chassis and install a mini toggle switch ... we don't regret it.
