Dose this half to have a driver board

A

  • No it does not. Do yourself a favor and buy the correct one straight away. It’ll work without it but it won’t put out the power to engrave. Get the board. Great item btw.

Is it possible to hook this up to an arduino

A

  • I have mine connected to an arduino uno but the board can't drive it directly. You'll need to add a mosfet switch. It doesn't require anything special, I cannibalized one from some old circuit board.

Can this be directly hooked to a 5VDC batt source and used like a makeshift handheld laser engraver?

  • In theory, yes, but you're better off getting a more powerful laser for just as much if not cheaper. This one is a little on the weaker side.

      The product does +/- what is written, we do not have to pretend. It affects wood well, both light and dark. For amateur jobs on wood it is more than good.
