This cable works great. My Dell Inspiron 15 laptop died, and I needed files from the hard drive. I bought this cable, connected to the drive and a USB port. It works just like any other external drive. I recovered my files and can even use the setup as a spare data backup. Amazing deal for $11!

Really nice cable for the price it will do 25-30 MB/s transfer speed with usb just plug it into a spare hard drive you have laying around and then you have quite a bit of removable storage. Actually some of the best hdd to USB adapter I have ever used. I have used many different brands and styles. This is plug n play the usb powers the external drive so no need for a power source.

This is all in all a good SATA to USB 3, but you might want to buy 2, just incase your power goes out, because the internal workings can fry to a power outage. On the plus side, My SSD is fine and none of the files were lost, at the cost of the device itself getting damaged.

Bought this so I could format an old Toshiba laptop hdd before recycling. Goofing around with it though, I learned it will connect that same hdd to my smart TV and play any video or audio files on it! So, I may end up recycling the laptop, but keeping the drive for portable storage. Read the description! You can't use this to power or run 3.5" drives, and it shouldn't be down rated for someone trying. Works perfectly if used as intended.

A laptop computer's power supply does not provide enough amperage through the USB port to operate an external hard drive unless the adapter has it's own power supply. This unit does not come with it's own power supply so it does not work with a laptop computer. If you need to use this for a laptop just buy the onewith the wall wart power supply for a couple of bucks more. Then you are good to go.
