It does not have the one key go home return button, however, although nice to have you do not need this feature with this Bird. It has what is called Headless Mode. If you activate headless mode the bird will return to you by pulling back on the stick, holding it there no matter what the orientation nose of the aircraft is pointing in. This is a great drone. It is really easy to fly especially with headless mode feature. It also has altitude hold. When you let go of the throttle stick it remain in hover (approximately) at that altitude. This machine is tough and will take a real beating. It is a good machine to learn-on before moving up to more complex more expensive machines if that is your goal etc. see less

The drone itself is 50 cm square and 19cm in height. That is with blade protection on. Slightly smaller in width with those off

The drone does not connect to your phone. The drone does not have FPV (first-person view) capabilities, from the manufacturer. There are other models that do. Photos and videos can be loaded to your phone by SD card, PC, etc.

I remember about 2-3 years ago everyone had remote control helicopters on their Christmas wish list. Since then, it seems that mall kiosks have remote control vehicles and copters throughout each Holiday season. Fast forward to 2016 and it seems that the Quadcopters have replaced the single rotor device. Personally, the helicopters were difficult to control and they did not have very many tricks that they could perform. I have had a few Quadcopters: METAKOO MK-Q01D Mini Drone, H22 Double-sided Inverted Flight Gyro Mini Drone. These are fun little drones, that can fly around your room, hover, flip/roll and once you get good, you can navigate your own little obstacle courses. In fact, my 7-year-old son and I have had flight competitions, which proved to be incredibly fun. One of my friends had the pleasure of flying a Phantom 4 drone and I was ready for one of my own. I was given a Syma X8HG New Drone with HD camera to review. Imagine my excitement when this arrived. This drone is significantly larger than any I have flown previously and has an HD camera. The front of the packaging displays the fire-engine red quadcopter with black trim, with silver HD camera hanging beneath. The copter has 4 legs, 4 blade protectors and has a 500mmx500mm length/width with 190mm height. The front panel also displays a few of the features of the copter: 360 degrees flip stunts, 6 axis gyroscope, Headless mode, flashing LED lights, 2.4GHz frequency, Hover function and HD camera. One side of the packaging displays the title and the other shows the remote control and the features. The remote does have a nontouch LCD screen along the bottom, 2 thumb sticks, high/low-speed function/Head free mode, and trimming buttons. The back of the box is the same as the front of the box. The bottom of the box has technical data to include dimensions as listed ad details the 7.4V 2000 mAh Li-Po battery. There is a QR code along the bottom and the standard product labeling logos. The product requires 4AA batteries which are not included. The packaging is well done and provides a very immediate “OPEN ME NOW” feeling. The best way to compare this is to that feeling on Christmas morning, where the Tasmanian present opening devil comes to life. The side of the packaging is easily opened and a large styrofoam block is removed. The drone is the largest component of the package, followed by the controller. Remove both of these and set them aside. You will also notice the charger, the AC power adaptor in a small box, the plastic wrapped HD camera with pre-installed 4GB MicroSD card, the 2000 mAh LiPo battery, two sets of four rotors, two sets of two legs (beneath the rotors), four rotor guards, the instruction manual, and two zip lock bags of small hardware. In one bag you will find a screwdriver, an extra set of four fan blade covers (locks), a set of four chrome caps and an orange USBA card reader for the MicroSD card. In the other bag, you will find numerous small screws to attach the rotor guards and to attach the legs. This process did take a little bit of time and was a little involved. Like any new toy, the set-up is often the most exciting part. When all the parts were removed, I turned to the manual for installation instructions. I am an enigma in that I like to read instruction manuals. I can often figure out the tech without them, but I also find additional features by reviewing the included instructions. I separated the individual components and removed the bagged components. The manual is a little disjointed with various installation instructions throughout the book. The English appears to be well written, there are some typographical errors. However, it is a good manual. I started by charging the battery as outlined on page I5. It is unfortunate that it takes 200 minutes to charge the 2000mAh LiPo battery. This is a long time to wait for the fun of flying the drone. To charge the device, place the A type plug into the wall, place the AC adapter into the charger and then place the small three position plug to the output end of the charger. You will notice a single red LED without the battery plugged into the charger. When you plug the battery in, you will also notice a Green LED. I completely charged the battery, prior to using this, for the entire 200 minutes. At that point, the LED extinguished. Following page 15 “Steps of fan blades Installation/disassembly of aircraft,” I unscrewed the blade cover, removed the lockstitch, slid off the blade cover added the rotor blade onto the iron shaft and then followed the instructions in reverse. I then added the chrome cap. This was repeated for or each of the four rotor blades. I then installed the safety guards following the instruction on page 6 of the manual. To do this, remove the decorating part and then add in the semicircle guard. There are included hardware screws (I assumed the small head) to attach the safety guards. You can then follow the instruction on page 7 for installation of the legs (Stands). Here, you use two large head screws for each of the stands. The installation is not complicated, it is just time-consuming as you repeat the steps 4x. Lastly, I installed the camera. It comes with a pre-installed 4GB microSD card and plastic casing. Plug the short microUSB cable into the camera and the plug into the base of the aircraft. Once this was set up, I had to hurry up and wait. When the green light was extinguished on the charger, I followed page 11 “Flight preparation and switching off of the aircraft.” Batteries AA x4 (not included) were installed into the remote as per page 3. Again note that the manual jumps all over the place, this is not a linear process. Luckily, I had read the manual before I started to play with the new drone. The manual stresses the importance that you follow the appropriate polarity. I turned the power of the remote to the on position, I opened the battery cover, connected the red to red/black to black connector, gently inserted the wires, closed the housing/fuselage. There is a small toggle underneath the aircraft that was turned to the “on” position, as in step 3. Next, the manual instructs you to press the left thumbstick all the way upwards and then all the way downwards. The lights on the copter changed from quick flashing to continuous/always on. The blades started to rotate after following Step II “Switching no the aircraft.” I assume this meant switching ON the aircraft, but here was one of the typographical errors I mentioned above. I excitedly attempted to fly the quadcopter drone, to complete my review of the device. Alas, the aircraft would not leave the ground. I tried for 45-60 seconds at full power up (left stick up) to fly the copter, but it would not leave the ground. I returned to the manual for assistance. Following step III “Switching off the aircraft,” the rotors stopped spinning. I turned off the drone, turned off the controller, took the battery out and restarted the process. I was unable to get any further activity out of the drone other than solid LED lights inferiorly. The controller batteries were full and the LCD displays full charge. The controller LCD showed the button presses, it appeared to be functioning appropriately. The lights did not flash on the aircraft, repairing of the device was unsuccessful. I repeated this process X 3. After this would not work again, I turned to “Rectification procedures” on page 16 of the manual and reviewed all of these steps. I assumed that it entered into low voltage protection or that the channel selection was not working. I took the battery out (IT WAS COOL to the touch as per the manual). To be safe, I waited 10 minutes for it to cool down further, and then I plugged it into the charger. The Green LED light was illuminated. I am not certain how the battery could have discharged, with at most 60 seconds of use. The drone never crashed, it did not hit anything, as it never left the ground. Page 15 of the manual details “Cautions when charging.” Perhaps the battery has been depleted or waited too long. It seems that the LiPo battery that was included with the device may be defective. I recharged the battery and I waited 180 minutes for the green LED to extinguish. While waiting, I perused the product features on page 12: Low voltage protection, over current protection, level calibration function, 3D overturning function, pressure hovering height adjustment and the headless function. I was honestly most excited for the headless function. When the drone completes matching, it defaults to normal mode. If you hold the left trigger button on the remote you will enter into headless mode, which will let you control the aircraft using the joystick direction. I was unable to initially test the left/right turning, the fine tuning/trimming controls, the left/right side flying the ascending/descending, forward/backward control, or the overturning button to do sideways loops. After the second charging, the pairing worked flawlessly, and pressing up and then middle the rotors hummed to life amazingly. The drone would not leave the ground, however. This quadcopter drone is beautiful, the packaging is amazing and I am super excited for this review. We have reached out to the company, who responded very quickly. The PR of the company seems to be great, responding quickly to the concern with an email. They noted that there are 2 types of rotors for this device. Each rotor is labeled with an A or B and a 1 or 2. There are two sets of rotors but apparently, there are differences in them. If you look closely at the plastic just under the rotor, you will see an A or B there as well. This is not mentioned (that I could find) in the manual and is a step that many may get wrong. Unfortunately, like me, they may feel something is wrong with the device instead of with the install. I had 2 rotors out of place. I corrected this problem, placed the rotors into the correct loci and tried to fly the copter yet again. It worked, and it worked amazingly well. Initially, the copter tended to move to the right and backward. Using the little trim buttons, I was able to get this to hover in place. I was able to take video, to take still shots and the quality of the pictures is quite good. I do not like that I cannot know if the camera is filming or not. There is a red LED on the camera itself that will blink/flash while recording and a green LED that lets you know it is ready. I did not see anything on the controller that lets you know if it is recording or not. For height, I was able to get to about the top of a standard home, before I was uncomfortable with flying the drone. However, to be honest, this was my first flight. This maiden voyage was designed to acquaint myself with the drone, to learn the nuances of the flight. The learning curve is quick. I was able to learn to strafe, to move forward backward, to turn while filming and to control height. Near the end of the first flight, I took the drone higher into the air, about another 10-20 feet above the rooftop of my neighbors home. You will start to notice the lights on the drone flashing. This is warning you that battery power is lapsing. This does not have autoland, it does not have return, it does not have to follow. You will have to fly it back to you, to land. This was not difficult as I did not move much more than about 100 feet from me. I would say that the biggest limitation of this quadcopter is that you must have the line of sight. You cannot see what it sees, you do not know what angle it is flying or which direction is front. Without being able to see the drone, you will not be able to get it back to you. I had 2 events that I had to land it as I could not easily/quickly determine which direction to turn. After about 15 minutes the drone ran out of power and I had to end my maiden flight. I was doing a lot of up and down, a lot of turning, video and snap capture. The charge to flight ratio is a little off with 200 minutes to chart to have 15 minutes of flight. I suspect if you are making mild movements, mild positional changes and allowing hover that you can squeeze another 2-5 minutes out of the device. I again charged the battery for 200 minutes. The next day, my 7-year-old son and I went out to fly the drone again. We really enjoyed the event. Again, we were able to get another 15 minutes out of the battery. I really wish that this drone had 2 features. Second, I wish that it had the ability for you to see which direction it was going or a button that was a return feature. I did increase my flight height to about the top of a tree (flying in my cul-de-sac), about 70 feet in the air. Again, you are limited to line of sight. I was able to do a fly over, I tried this once at about 20 feet in the air. Hold the top right button on the controller and then make a big turn and the helicopter will do a loop. I was too chicken to try this forward or backward. I also have not yet tried the headless mode. That is a much more advanced feature. Summary: The drone packaging is amazing and the product arrives very well packaged. The instruction manual is very well done but needs to be a little more sequential. It is a bit jumpy, meaning you have to move around the book to advance steps. The color is beautiful and the size is just right for a newbie/novice to intermediate flier. I am used to flying the little mini drones and very very small movements make a big deal. This is a little more forgiving. I was initially very disappointed in the drone, thinking it was broken. However, the company responded incredibly quickly and proved to be very helpful. There should be information in the manual about the different blades. I did find information about purchasing additional parts and noted different blade parts. This was the only locus where I found mention of forward/reverse blades. I wish hat there were 2 batteries or that the battery was a little bigger to allow for about 20 minutes of charging. There really needs to be a return feature, but I do not know how difficult that programming would be. At least maintain the height and return to where it took off. Something like that would really make me feel a lot more comfortable. The drone promises a lot of features. The camera imaging is clear, the drone controls are very responsive. There needs to be some way on the controller of knowing if the camera is recording or not. Also, I was able to have 4 full flights out of 4 AA batteries. The battery indicator still shows full charge. My opinion would be to have the controller charge via USB as well to save the environment and reduce the number of batteries needed. The video is much clearer than I thought, but there is a lot of air/rotor noise. The still pictures are very clear as well. I am pleased with the 4 GB included memory card. This really is a good size for this device. The end user can choose to get a larger card if they desire. Personally, with 15 minutes flight time, 4GB is satisfactory. You can set the quality of the picture on the camera, but you have to do this, while grounded. I am pleased with the device and rate it at 4/5 stars. You will not be disappointed with this device. Make sure you put A rotor with A locus and B rotor with B locus. The company was really helpful and speedy with their response. The email really made the difference.

I'm going to make this initial entry brief and plan to expand. Bottom line, this is an EXCELLENT drone for the price ($115). It flies great - once you get it going. The manual is mostly worthless. It was not written by native English readers/speakers. Some of the errors are downright funny. But in the end, there are some gross errors that make assembly extremely confusing. We needed to view youtube for a number of essential instructions. The most important part to note. After 2 days of flying, it went headfirst into a pool - fully submerged with the camera before I could get it out. After a 3 hour dry out in the sun and a new battery, it was back up and running as if nothing had happened.

This is my first drone. I've had it for about a week and I love it. It's been windy as hell here in Illinois for a while but I have still been able to learn how to fly in 25-30mph winds! You must use high speed mode to fight winds! I recommend learning without wind or inside! I crashed and still crash often but mostly because of wind not because the drone is hard to fly. The drone has held up very well in some pretty scary crashes. My only complaints is the prop guards have bent so badly they started to rub on the props. I have now taken them off. Looks cooler that way anyway. Battery life is super short...I get about 8 minutes. Extra Battery's are pretty inexpensive though. I also had an LED cover break but that was definitely my fault. All parts are on Amazon very cheap! Video quality is pretty good for a cheap little camera....I just bought a gimbal and a yi action camera for it so the video won't be so shaky when turning back and forth. There are lots of YouTube videos on people upgrading them in various ways. I recommend watching them if you want better quality video. Overall I'm very pleased with this (toy). Did I mention my wife loves it too!? She learned how to fly it in the wind quicker than I did! Great drone to learn to fly with! I look forward to buying a more expensive one after flying this for a year or so.

I do recommend practicing on a simulator or even a micro drone first. Even with the stabilizing features, it is easy to lose control if you haven't flown a drone or helicopter before. Aside from that, this is an awesome drone for the price! There are occasional issues with the gimble vibrations when taking video or pictures but is easily fixed with easy modifications to the existing gimble or of course purchasing a new one. As I will be swapping the camera for a GoPro, a new gimble is a must. Flight time and general operations are again excellent for the price. Perfect for anyone that is unable to fork out 500+ for a DJI model.

Well my first drone had a bad camera from factory, I returned it and bought another one and worked well! Overall I'm satisfied it truly has an amazing video quality, it is a bit too slow to recuperate altitude if you lower your throttle too quick because it's heavy. Just make sure you get registered with the FAA to avoid a ticket or other penalties, it's only 5$ for three years so it's cheaper than a fine plus all ur drones can have it since the authorization code is for the person who applies for it not for the uav itself. Good luck and plenty of fun!

This thing had a little more power than I was expecting out of the box. It took up my action can and waterproof case with no issues. It flies well but I did have one issue. I did a flip and for some reason it only did half a flip and went for the ground. I was sure I was going to have a broken quad. After I looked at it the only damage was a couple landing gear and the body had to be snapped together. After this I contacted the seller and they sent me a full set of replacement landing gear. Since then I haven't had any issues. I've also heard it rumored that you can use the transmitter from the syma x5 with this. THIS DOES NOT WORK. I tried it and the range was slim to none almost causing me to lose the quad. This transmitter however does work well with the x5 and x12s. I'm really happy with this buy. I really wish syma would release a brushless version at a higher price. It could compete with the dji.

I received this Quadcopter from Battery Superstore it came well packed and with everything a person would need to start flying the first day. The Quadcopter come with a good manual with lots of pictures I also found all the parts that come with it was packed well with extra if a person needs them. It come with a extra set of blades in the event of a accident. The included radio is super easy to operate and worked great up to about 80 meters. I wouldn't fly any farther than that as when the quadcopter fly's out of range it lands fast ( drops ) so keep it kinda close. The battery life is good and last's around 10-12 minuets per charge. I found the quadcopter super easy to fy and it will do flips but wait until you can fly it good before you do any of them

Just getting into quadcopters and this is my first one. I have since also purchased a Hubsan H107P. The Syma X8G is beast mode! This thing really is powerful and tough! I have crashed this thing many times and it's still in amazing condition, the only thing that has takes a beating is the prop guards. I have also ordered some spare parts on Amazon to have on hand for future crashes lol. I would recommend some spare battery's and a good charger. I bought the iMax B6 charger which will be here tomorrow, you can balance charge lipo battery's at a much faster rate and at better quality charged with it.

This thing is awesome. I got it a couple months ago so I had plenty of time to really see what I'd all abiut. It Flys great and had plenty of power. I have it up to I'm guessing 150 to 200 feet in the air with no problem. I have never had it out of range yet. It is also very tough. I have had several crashes and some were very hard. The worse that happen was a couple broken prop guards but never even broke a prop. The video is just wonderful with almost zero jello. There is nothing negative I have to say about it. I just love it and love flying it.
